Well the its the last game of the group, we've already won two games and have gone through to the next round to play either Ecuador or the Krauts (i'd rather the latter), so lets see if England can finish of the round in style.... 2-1 to England.

Before today, I thought that Sweden would win convincingly ... but now I have a feeling that England will sneak a win ... goal from a Beckham freekick or midfield player!

so englands gonna win the world cup
YEAH RIGHT!
the squad is unfit, or they aint played many competitive matches, OR BOTH!
and yet again, we aint beaten sweden, 12 games now goin back to the late 60's, didnt know sweden were a superpower in football, against england, it appears they are lol
1 other point, they could have finished us off 3 times if it werent for the crossbar twice and a clearance off the line!
and so to the next stage. ecuador, good passing team, got some threat with long throws and corners, and most of their best 11 are fully fit after some of them being rested. england, neville, owen, rooney, ferdinand, gerrard, all with niggles or injuries, campbell, walcott, carrick, jenas, bridge, not played much football for a while, carragher, joe cole, playin outa position (altho joe cole is playing well, for me though his skills are better used in an attacking midfield role, we still dont have a natural left footed left winger, and we have no pace on the right wing either), and a few players not hitting form, doesn't look good really!
can we replace any players at this stage or is it too late now?
for me, darren bent and jermaine defoe are shoutin for a call up and a more natural right back would be useful!

They can shout as loud as they like, but as we say (in your local vernacular) "they aint gonna get wun".
Too late once the competition has started.

Very poor - Swden were unlucky not to win.
Beckham - was he even there? As for being Captain - he doesn't actually appear to do much in the way that some other motivational Captains do. It's not just an armband David!
Campbell - dear oh dear, you just knew he would **** up at a crucial time.
Walcott - a golden opportunity to actually see what he can add - and you missed it Sven. Making a debut in the Quarters/Semi's/Final is not the way to introduce him. At this rate, expect to see David James up front if another of our strikers gets injured!
However, I though Hargreaves had a solid game - never quite understood why everyone gets on his back and the man of the match for me, Joe Cole.
I'm not booking a flight to Berlin just yet.

Will you lot stop whinging! The most important thing has to be... WE DID NOT LOSE. They played much better than they have been doing, and held out right to the end of the 93 minutes.
Maybe if everyone stopped wittering about them on here, and putting a dampner on festivities.. we might get somewhere!
No whinging - just a dose of reality
Game 1- Plyed absolute rubbish - everyone blames the heat and says don't worry players are world class.
Game 2 - Can hardly break down a third rate team with these world class players don't worry everyone says we won and have qualified.
Game 3 - Signs that things are getting better.....whats this? world class players come out for secoind half and play absolute rubbish and were lucky to get away with it.
Common denominator so far.........perhaps these players are not world class after all, oh but the media says they are and so they must be after all the premiership is the best in the world isn't it?
who do you beleive?
Said it before and i'll say it again, that ''world class'' midfeild of Beckham Gerrad Lampard and Cole'' have absolutely no pace between any of them, its pace that wins you games....

Actually, it isn't the most important thing - we were through to the next round regardless of the result.
So, not using the opportunity to look at Theo once Owen had gone off could prove to be a mistake. The risk of Rooney's foot getting stamped on, is yet another potential problem. Why we took 2 strikers with issues and another whom we don't seem prepared to use is beyond me. Should have kept Defoe in the squad.
And whilst some may think they played better, they didn't have to do much to improve on what has been a poor start. It's not good enough to get through to the final, let alone win it!

Cole looks at home on the left, he can cross well enough with his left foot, and can cut inside when he suits, which was effective last night.
No, it's too late. I agree that both of those should've gone instead of Walcott.

Which is precisely why people are posting as they are!
I want England to win - but to do that you have to have both the right squad and some tactical nous. Both of which appear to be sadly lacking on the England bench.

You didn't buy your armchair from the same store Mr Perks go his by any chance? You know, the one with the big rose tinted windows that make everything in the store so inviting?
I will be proud of the England team when they have done something to be proud about - which for some of them as individuals has not happened yet and for some, probably won't!
I was proud at Cardiff for the FA Cup final when my team lost because that was probably the best cup final most of us will see for many a year. I wish I could say the same about a single match England have played in the tournament so far.
In my humble opinion, Sweden should have won the game last night - and you feel we should all be proud of that? Pleeeease!

The fact of the matter is, Sweden DIDN'T win last night, whether they "should" have done or not, which means neither team were better than the other. So we should be proud of the fact that we've got his far, whether our playing is top notch or not.
It's been confirmed-Owen on his way back to England with a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament.

I am in total agreement with Andy here - no one is not wanting England to win what is being said is that in all honesty England are not playing very well this world cup, having watched a number of games its easy to see that other teams play with more adventure flair and excitement.
England for some reason are scared of doing that, and a adopt a seafety first approach all the time. Blind fanatical following of the team is fine if that your thing but there is nothing wrong with proper quality analysis of performances either, it doesn't mean you are not a fan.
I iNNoCeNt EyEs I
21.06.2006, 15:04
Blind fanatical following? Have I said that England have played brilliantly? And all the rest of it, no.. I'm just showing some support... I've said time and time again, NO, England are not playing very well, but the point is we haven't lost any of the games.. surely that means something?
Cornishwomble
21.06.2006, 16:01
I agree we weren't brilliant last night and I agree that if we carry on playing like that we won't win the World Cup.
Having said that we did play better at times, and also we can hopefully learn from the defensive lapses and work on them in training. Heck I even thought Owen Hargreaves showed everyone that he is the good player people have said he is.
Maybe England will raise their game maybe we'll get beaten out of sight, we don't know but as a proud England fan I have to believe we will win it until the last minute of our last match.
I agree it is all against us but hey supporting my team through thick and thin is what it is all about. If anyone thoguht we would ever play like Argentina or Brazil then they we're on a different planet anyway.
My big problem with the threads on here about England up till now is not people moaning about our performances because it's justified. My problem is with people who are English and who actually seemed chuffed that England are doing badly. They can't wait to come on here after every performance and gloat and almost take pleasure in our performances.
Perhaps with support like that we don't deserve to bring then World Cup home.
As I said we're all entitled to our opinion but I think I'll give these World Cup threads a miss from now on because I don't want to wallow in the negativity that surrounds them when it comes to England

well, i didnt think we played so bad last night! there were a long of times when the ballplay etc was miles better than the first two matches. and at the end of the day we drew against sweden - a team which we havent beaten for ages!
such a shame about owen :( although quite why sven took 4 strickers - 2 of which have hardly played properly this year due to injury, plus a 17year old who he seems reluctant to play!
but we're though, and in my eyes anyway, are playing better, with a super duper goal to boot :)

i do want them to win, but i know they wont, we aint fit enough, match practiced enough, and theres a distinct lack of depth in some areas of the squad
we as england fans need to be realistic here, theres squads where their bench players could get into ours right now and sven really needs to start thinkin about his tactics rather than his pay off cheque after this cup
too many good players got left out of svens squad and we are now suffering from it

But if we all thought like that no one would bother going to any games because no one team was guaranteed to win anything would they. May as well chuck my season ticket in the bin, there are some other teams against us this year so by god it's too much of a risk supporting them.
Get real.
Constructive criticism is one thing and well worth debating, writing your team off before they've kicked a ball like some have done on here is just pathetic. Who ever gave Greece a cat in hells chance of being the current European Champs???? I bet not one person on here did before that tourno started, and Im damn sure just as few Greeks did either. Which players aren't fit enough? IMO There's only Rooney, for obvious reasons.
There's no point looking backwards: I thought Bent, Defoe and Wright-Philips should all have gone, but the fact is they haven't, so just let them get on with it.
Our defence has been brilliant until the 2nd half of the Sweden game, and I think they'll be back on form for Ecuador.
Have a bit of faith, instead of waiting for us to get knocked out so you can say "I told you so"
