Following on from the invitation . . . .

Once again we look forward to the evening being started off by the The MouthPiece.com Band.
. . . . we are looking for tMPer's to join us again at the Easingwold March Contest.

For those of you who have played in previous years, Easingwold March and Deportment Contest needs no introduction . . . . it's a fantastic night out!
For the uninitiated . . . it is, in style, a one-off Whit Friday Contest. 20 or so bands converge on this small North Yorkshire market town and make the evening their own. Each band does a circuit of the market place (where they are marked on deportment), before performing a contest march on the stage.
tMP have again been given the prestigious task of opening the evening. There are no restraints on player numbers for this band, so, all who wish to play can. In fact, the bigger band we put out, the better for tMP.
Don't be shy or nervous about coming forward. We are not looking to field a Championship band. Being a part of the banding community is what tMP is all about. So everyone who can make it is very welcome.

The itinerary is likely to be . . .

Midday – onwards - Meet at The George Hotel in the market place.
5.00 p.m. - Quick rehearsal in nearby Car Park.
6.00 p.m. - Begin the festivities. (This time is now confirmed)
6.10 – till late - tMP Social gathering at the numerous pubs around the market place! This years Contest is on Saturday, 24th June, 2006

If you are available (please check you diaries first) copy and paste the following in this thread, adding in your own personal details.

I think this might be the first one i've missed! I can't make it this year as I only finish uni on the friday and I'm going to a cricket picnic on the sunday for my friend's 30th. I'm sad :frown:....there was going to be wine and steak at Easingwold this year too...

Enjoy the day, sorry to post in the sign up thread, but I felt sad!

Can we get a little more confirmation of times? Our band now has a job on until 3 but we can be at Easingwold by 4.30. According to P Sanderson the contest doesn't start till 6 so this would give us plenty of time but Roger has us down as rehearsing 3.30 and playing at 4.30 in which case I'd be cutting it fine

Edit: As Peter Sanderson (Contest Controller) has now confirmed the times I've edited the original post with the correct times.

Here they are again:

The itinerary is likely to be . . .
Midday – onwards - Meet at The George Hotel in the market place.
5.00 p.m. - Quick rehearsal in nearby Car Park.
6.00 p.m. - Begin the festivities.
6.10 – till late - tMP Social gathering at the numerous pubs around the market place!

Just to remind everyone that Easingwold is NEXT Saturday. We still require players in all sections (particularly Basses, Horns and Euphoniums) so if you are available and would like to play with the tMP Band please use this thread for signing up. No restriction on ability, age or numbers, and as tMP aren't part of the 'official' competition you can play with us and then your own band.

It will be worth it just for the road march!!

Looking forward to meeting you all again next weekend.

Just a quicky to ask what people are wearing? Im competing so will have two uniforms with me already... are we ok to wear our own band uniforms? or are we wearing something across the board for a uniform look?

Cheers.

For this particular tMP appearance we do like members to wear their own band jackets. This shows the diversity of the bands representing tMP.

Thank you to those who have signed up in the last couple of days - much appreciated.
We could still do with a few more players though, or conformation that players will be attending, particularly in the lower brass sections. There is no restriction on the amount of players we can field so if you are in or around the Easingwold area between 5 - 6.10 p.m. please feel free to join us. All you need is your instrument, lyre, and band uniform. tMP provide all music on the day.

I Look forward to meeting you all on Saturday.

I've just got back after a 400 mile round trip and must first thank everyone who played with the tMP Band yesterday. After an anxious week recruiting players we eventually managed to field a full band, and a good quality band also. Special thanks to everyone who helped in the recuitment campaign but a BIG thank you to Gary Hallas (Ploughboy) for his help in filling some of the empty seats at the eleventh hour - Cheers Gary, you're a star. :tup

As usual at Easingwold, the band started gathering outside the George Hotel at about
2.00 p.m. and over the next three hours, and over a few drinks, we meet old and new players alike, and waited in anticipation for the rehearsal, which again was held in the splendid surrounds of the local car park! After a few minutes the band organised themselves into something that looked like band formation with Ruth taking lead role on Principal Cornet. I quickly explained the format for the evening and conducted the band through a rendition of Knight Templar - Sorted!
I then gave out the copies of the road march - but on this occassion apologising for the fact that this music was pure gorgonzola with a cheese topping with parmazan added for extra flavour! Having dismissed the fact I had anything to do with this music and that the origins still remained a mystery, we 'ran out' the road march with extreme ease. It must be noted that Gary, (who had now been promoted from cornet to Bass Drum) and I acted as the vocal accompaniment for this occasion. On completion of the piece we then set off to now traditionally open the proceedings of the 25th Easingwold March Competition.

Any deportment prizes on offer were definitely not coming our way, having been advised by tMP's fashion guru 'Straightmute' I had opted to wear 'Corduroy' - in a casual manner - which was definitely a no-no with Captain Mainwaring the deportment judge, who looked as though he had just filmed an episode of 'Dad's Army'. Although I personally thought it might have had something to do with Tim's jeans, T-Shirt and the borrowed jacket that was at least 4 sizes too big! Anyway, tMP's own 'Parade Marshall' Craig shouted the orders to move off and within a few seconds the band were into full swing as they swaggered along to the strains of Liberty Bell and other well known tunes culminating with the 1934 hit song 'Sing As You Go' made famous by the legendry northern vocalist Gracie Fields!

The band then made their way onto the stage and I was asked to say a few words. I did, in fact, say quite a lot of words, but only a few were audible as the microphone was (for the second year running) not working properly. The band then gave a fine rendition of Knight Templar to a warm and enthusiastic audience.

Here are the official 'remarks' from the events adjudicator Stephen Tighe:

Firm confident start, basses quite powerful.
Tempo slows down a tad. Some real intonation issues in the melody
line - cornets.
Basses and middle band are over-powering the cornets a bit (stronger cornets please!)
Again, bit of a struggle for cornets in recap. Also band snatches a bit at phrase endings and note values suffer. Overblowing a bit! Some strong tuba playing a feature.

Overall:
Bit loose and untidy - and unbalanced.

Thank youAnd all this with only four minutes rehearsal! - Not bad eh!

After our performance some members went to play with their own bands, others stayed in the market place to listen to the other bands while the majority dashed back to the George Hotel for a well deserved drink (or twelve! - eh Sud!)
The rest of the evening was spent socialising in the usual 'banding' tradition with copious amounts of Coke and Rhubarb Cordial being consumed.

It's always great to meet old friends - and we have quite a few in Easingwold now - but yesterday was extra special as I got to meet so many 'new' tMPer's for the first time. The people on tMP and I suppose Bandspeople in general are certainly a special breed. They are warm, generous, caring and amusing folk and I really couldn't wish to have spent the day with a nicer group of people. Thanks to everyone, you certainly made my weekend an enjoyable and worthwhile experience.

We have already received an invitation to perform again at next years event, so with the absence of any football tournaments we should find it a lot easier to recruit players.

Here are a few photo's of the tMP Band - courtesy of Kevin Hallas:

Thanks to Roger, and the rest of TMP Easingwold Band, for a great night out. This was my first outing as a TMPer, and I was made very welcome by all! As I play in a wind Band, I don’t often get the opportunity to play at events such as Easingwold, or the Whit Fridays, so hopefully I passed my audition on Euphonium at Easingwold yesterday, and may be privileged enough to be invited back to TMP Band again.

Thanks….

within a few seconds the band were into full swing as they swaggered along to the strains of Liberty Bell and other well known tunes culminating with the 1934 hit song 'Sing As You Go' made famous by the legendry northern vocalist Gracie Fields!

I thought you weren't going to mention what music was played

Good job no-one knows where the music came from or who did the arrangement (even if he/she was stupid enough to print his name on all the parts......)
