Just a quick note to say that any students in the area are welcome to come along to Flixton (particularly if they play bass or percussion!). We rehearse 2 miles from the Trafford centre and within easy reach from all the Universities. We are a friendly bunch and do lots of socialising as well as concerts and a few contests (2nd Sc). Competing in the second section, Flixton Band are situated 5 mins away from the Trafford Centre, and rehearse on Monday and Thursday.
The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in preparing bands for competitions, and the desire and personality to take the band forward in both contests and concerts. He/She will have full musical control (No Committee).

Flixton Band have appointed Peter Lockett to conduct them only until to the Area Contest. Peter will then resume his playing commitments with the band. A long term MD is still required.
Applications are welcomed from suitable candidates, a number of whom will be invited to meet the band after the forthcoming area contest.

The successful applicant will ideally have a proven track record, but this is not essential, as we are looking for someone with the skills, drive, ambition, vision, and motivation, to build upon the band’s many recent successes.

In reply though to your post, I will just pick up on one section if you dont mind, make a comment, and then finish with a brief statement. This is all I will say on the matter.

You said:-

The rumour mill is working in full production again. I know the band you refer to, and I think that It is probably one of 4 or five that Kevin is supposed to have joined in the last week ("according to someone in the band who told me personally").

From what Kevin has told me (himself), he has no immediate plans to join any band as MD although will probably and quite rightly, do so when a suitably interesting and attractive opportunity arises. He has certainly not "gone to" any band at the moment.
I am also certain that any announcement would be done publicly rather than second and third hand in a pub etc.
It is true that Kevin is working with a couple of bands at the moment on specific projects, as he has done throughout his time as Flixton's MD.
Those who saw us last weekend at Kirkby Lonsdale (We did rather well by the way), would have seen that there was still a good relationship between Kevin and the band.

I'm sorry if the real facts are not very "juicy" to people in the band world, but quite simply, after 3 sucessfull years as MD of Flixton Band, Kevin has decided the time is right to move on in order to pursue other challenges and projects. He has not made any decisions as yet regarding his future, and is currently honouring his prior commitments of with 2 or 3 bands on specific projects.
Flixton Band still have the same players, and the same ambitions. We will continue working as hard (as we have with Kevin), with whoever takes over.

I today (2/2/08) posted a new advert which included a new vacancy from the previously submitted reply.

Whils it was briefly on page 1, I now note that it has now been moved to replace the previous one now at the bottom of page 2 - even less chance of being picked up.

A pity tmp don't seem prepared to treat all bands the same.....

Suggest tmp take a closer look at the frequency of other band's submissions.

It is difficult enough finding players at the moment with each new vacancy at the back of all previous threads (why can't tmp have the most recent at the front), without this.

It is difficult enough finding players at the moment with each new vacancy at the back of all previous threads (why can't tmp have the most recent at the front), without this.


Regarding the ordering of posts, we have discussed this, but to make this change would make a nonsense of any ongoing discussion, and would put the Recruitment threads at odds with the rest of tMP. Also, many people, when searching, would use the "Go to first new post" button, which would automatically take them to the latest vacancy posted.

We try to post an edit at the start of each thread directing anyone to the most recent posts for current vacancies and contact details.

We do try to treat everyone fairly, but we are only human, and may miss the occasional "bump". When spotted, however, appropriate action is taken.

Just to clarify, the post you made yesterday did not include any new vacancy (I can send it to you via PM if you so wish), and therefore was seen as a bump, and in our efforts to be fair to everyone, was deleted.

Anyway, back on topic, as it appears you'be had your 'bump' now anyway.

Mike - as you are so keen to point out our shortcomings, and feel that the service you receive is not fair... can I ask how much you pay for the privilege to post these adverts then please...?
