Plans are well advanced for National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain Easter Course

Plans are now well advanced for what will certainly be a momentous NYBBGB course this Easter in Taunton. The course takes place at Taunton School from 9th to16th April (the NYBBGB moved the course to commence on a Sunday to accommodate the National Youth Championships).

Bramwell Tovey will direct his first course since being appointed Artistic Director from 2006 to 2010, having previously directed two courses as Guest Conductor. The Guest Soloist is Joseph Alessi, Principal Trombone of the New York Philharmonic Orchestra. Both Bramwell Tovey and Joseph Alessi are flying in from the USA especially to be at the NYBBGB course.

The programme of music which Bramwell Tovey has selected for 81 of the finest young brass and percussion musicians in the UK is far reaching and includes two brand new works. Bramwell Tovey’s Concerto for Trombone and Brass Band, which the Joseph Alessi and the NYBBGB will première and perform at concerts at the Octagon Theatre, Yeovil on Saturday 15th April and The Pavilion, Weston super Mare on Sunday 16th April. The other new work, commissioned by the NYBBGB, is by Peter Meechan and is entitled Match Day.

Concerto for Trombone and Brass Band - Tovey (new work)

Journey into Freedom - BallThe music staff which Bramwell Tovey will lead is as follows:- Alan Wycherley, Martin Winter, Mark Wilkinson, Lesley Howie, Robert Childs, John Maines, Steve Sykes and Richard Dyson. The Administrator is Philip Biggs.

Since 1952 the NYBBGB has given the finest young brass players in this country outstanding musical opportunities. This certainly remains the case in the 21st century.
