I was confused by Roger's heading for this topic, but according to the Cambridge Advanced Learner's Dictionary "to predicate" means "to state that something is true", so he may be right after all

(Edit: to explain this to newcomers, Roger's heading did read "Predications" before he sneakily changed it - honest :!: )

Here goes - more by luck than goood judgement:

1st: United Co-op Crewe

2nd: Shirley (not Shirland, as the photo caption in The British Bandsman has it!)

3rd: Carlton brass

4th: Lockwood Brass

So, at the end of day one of the Nationals, there are 7 people who have picked one winner out of either the 3rd or 4th sections.
rickcowens was the only person to predict Wardle winning the 4th section.
EbHorny, JohnSud, Robbie, Euph-Bari, Markyboy and Kirmat all guessed correctly that Diggle would win the 3rd section!

Roger Thorne
21.09.2003, 22:42
No outright winner on this occassion (that's saved a few bob on a prize John!) and only a handfull managed to selected just one winner in any section.

If there was a prize, (but remember there isn't :D ) it would go to Tewkeshorn who managed to predict 4 prize winners.
Crewe (3rd) Lanner & District (3rd) St. Dennis (4th) Long Eaton (2nd).

Well Done John.

We'll run another similar competition in October for the Pontins Contest and promise there WILL be a prize for the nearest prediction.

Thanks to everyone who predicted us to win. Sorry we didn't quite make it but we were well pleased with the way we played and our result.
Due to illness, we had to play 2 cornets down and our 2nd man down played principal cornet with 3 weeks notice! Well done Tony. You were fantastic!
