View Full Version : Portishead Town Band - Vacancies
Edit: See most recent posts for current vacancies
Portishead Town Band are a progressive 3rd section band with many players above 3rd section standards.
We have a great social life as well as a great banding life!
We currently have vacancies due to the relocation and personal circumstance of several key players.
We are especially looking for a solo trombone,an Eb or Bb bass,1st baritone. We also have spaces for a few competant cornet players to join our front row.Any other players will also be made to feel very welcome.
Contact me in the first instance for further details.
Up and coming calendar items include a days recording for the BBC in an "Eastenders " spin off about Frank!
Also a CD recording due in October, come and be a part of it!
Portishead is a 3rd section band in North Somerset and after 5 yrs with our MD,now find our selves looking for some "fresh blood!"
We are a dedicated band who meet twice a week on Monday and Thursday from 7.30-9.30pm
We are looking for an enthusiastic, dedicated MD who can take us forward.
If you have previous experience and are "bandless" at the moment we would really love to hear from you.
Are you a brass player coming to study in the Bristol Area?
If so, 10 miles down the road, you'll find a friendly and welcoming brass band, Portishead Town Band.
We're a progressive 3rd section band with many events up and coming, including a CD recording in October.
We have several existing players who travel from Bristol,so if transport could prove an issue, don't worry we could probably arrange lifts.
Another added bonus to all students and brass bands people alike.......our bandroom is next door to a pub!! :guiness :)

I wish I had known at the time I was in Bristol in 1998/1999. The only playing I got was with Pill Salvation Army Band which, with the greatest of respect, wasn't quite what I was looking for. However, I hope that Pill are going on strong.
Good luck to Portishead Band.

Portishead Town Band (currently 3rd section, West of England) needs an experienced and enthusiastic Musical Director to join its team. We`re a band that's had its fair share of success lately and we have a excellent group of players, backed by a very professional committee and its supporters.
Our conducting team has recently been boosted by the appointment of an excellent Deputy MD/player and we are now looking for someone who can really take the band on to achieve it's potential - not just in terms of contest success but in our performance of music publicly, which is our main aim.
If you think you have what it takes in terms of ability, motivation and patience (!) then please get in touch.

If you are a bass player new to Bristol or just fancy a change of band the Portishead Town Band are in need of you!
We are a very friendly 3rd Section band based North of Bristol and are short of a BBb and Eb bass player. We have instruments ready to be played and a string of excellent jobs throughout the year to keep you busy.
The band has improved immeasurably in the last 4 months under the leadership of our new MD Rhodri Griffiths. This year we have won the Coleford Own Choice contest and been the hghest placed lower section band in the corresponding Entertainment Contest in the same venue beating all the 2nd Section bands on show.
We are currently ranked top of the West of England third section and are confident of promotion to the 2nd next year after our 6th placed finished in April.
If you would like to join our forward thinking and very commited band please contact us on enquiries@portisheadband.co.uk.

The Portishead Town Band (north Bristol) will be travelling to Holland on September 15-19 on their bi-annual tour. Due to ill health they are now an Eb bass player short for the trip and need your help!
The purpose of the tour is to take part in the celebrations of operation Market Garden. The band has been invited by the town's Twinning Association.
Three concerts have been arranged during the trip and some great days out have been booked. One of which is in Die Eftling - Holland's answer to Disneyland!
The band is currently 3rd Section and enjoys playing a wide varied programme and is well known throughout the Bristol and North Somerset area for it's quality concert performances.
They will be staying in a very nice 4* hotel near to Den Dungen (just over an hour away from Amsterdam) and travelling by coach from Portishead near Bristol.
The cost of the trip is around £240 incl. travel and hotel.
If you are interested in joining the band on this trip and fancy finding out a few more details please call the band manager Paul Field on 0777 9789416 or email paul.field@portisheadband.co.uk.

If you're a new student at Bristol Uni or UWE and are looking for a band to join then feel free to come along for a blow with the Portishead Town Band. We're based just off J19 on the M5 and it takes only about 20 minutes to our rehearsal room from Bristol centre over the Suspension Bridge. We can provide transport from the centre of Bristol so don't let the travelling worry you!
The band is currently 3rd Section but are confident we can gain promotion to the 2nd Section at the Area contest in Torquay in March.
Our MD is young, very enthusiastic and expressive and has really pulled the band together over the last 9 months. He makes us work hard but everyone enjoys playing for him.
We are a very busy band and have a full programme of engagements throughout the year including 3/4 contests. We have just returned from a week away in Holland where we were invited to take part in the celebrations of the Battle of Arnhem. It was a great trip and we're busy planning the next one!
We are very lucky to boast one of the healthiest bands in Bristol numbers wise. We have a nearly full band and average about 18 players each rehearsal on Monday and Thursday. We are always looking to strengthen the band and currently have vacancies on bass and cornet but any other players are welcome too.
If you think you'd like to come along for a blow some time we'd love to see you. We rehearse every Monday and Thursday 7.45-9.45 in Gordano School, Portishead. You can email me through TMP or feel free to give me a call on 07766 905255.
Many thanks
