View Full Version : Weetabix.... Hot or Cold?

This may sound like a stupid topic... and probably it is. But last week on tour one of the younger members looked shocked (almost offende) when I suggested that I eat Weetabix with cold milk. Don’t know why we managed to get onto the subject. Anyho, a debate ensued the source of which was should Weetabix be consumed with hot or cold milk… I’ve always had it cold, but a few of the band said they’d always had it warm… perhaps this is like Marmite……. Love it/hate it – you decide!!

must be doing the rounds... some common link, a freind of a freind. its weird how these topics of conversations get around.
Weetabix with warm milk? never heard of that before!

I used to have it warm when I was younger (bung it in the microwave). From being a teenager though I have always had it cold, with about half an inch of sugar on top and it it quick before it goes too soggy! Must be crunchy! Can never have too much sugar either! When I started uni I was confused by peeps from down south who had never had chips and gravy  :o They've never lived!
How do u eat it cold??????? does it not say on the box heat???? ive neva heard any1 have it cold before!

To right Dave, grab a couple of Weetabix, a thin layer of lard and smother with Marmite.
Absolutely Delicious !! :?
. . . or you could just eat them with cold milk and loads of sugar.

You people are sick with your cold milk.
Has to be hot , mix it with some sugar and wow its a fab meal - I also do this to cornflakes !!

Slightly off topic here.
My kids drink Ribena, but only with water. When I was younger I used to drink it with cold milk. The kids think that's disgusting, but does anyone else drink Ribena with milk?

Rog, I'd expect something like that from the Twigge posse, but I am shocked...

I would only ever use cold milk.
I've never come across this myself, but I've heard someone say that weetabix used to be much more firm, and they used to spread them with jam and eat them like that
Oh no! it has to be with hot milk (microwaved). Very nice! Specially mid winter!!
My other half doesn't like anything cold if you can have it hot!!!

should Weetabix be consumed with hot or cold milk
I don't have it with either. I eat it with loads of butter on. An yes I have already been told that I am weird, but I like to call it different and individual. Although I don't actually see what's wrong with it, I mean people butter bread and toast etc! :!:

I've never tried hot weetabix, but they sound yummy!
I like to make my weetabix all gooey, then mix them with rice krispies. Gorgeous.
Those mini weetabix are good too.
I love Weetabix!!

Isn't hot Weetabix one of those things you have when your changing from eating baby food to adult food? Not sure what that says about the maturity of some on here

It's too gooey when hot. Has to be nice and crispy.
Slightly off topic but when I was younger my Dad always tried to give me bread soaked in warm milk when I was ill. he tried sometimes to get us to eat kippers and custard too.....yes together!!

I love my weetabix cold.
"I never leave home without my Weetabix" without fail. Remember the advert????
I haven't eaten Weetabix for about 20 years, but when I did it was always with cold milk - but I especially liked it if I was the one that opened a new pint of milk and got the creamy bit at the top all over my Weetabix. 8)
You don't get that anymore, especailly as the missus insists on Skimmed milk

Weetabix - Yeuch!! I'll eat it if i have to, but not through choice. I'm not really a breakfast person, very rarely eat cereal, i usually just go straight on to lunch!!
And creamy milk - double yeuch!! I love drinking milk, but can't stand the cream on top - think it's to do with a childhood memory of drinking some that had gone off!! :?

i once did some work experience for the contractors that built the weetabix factory at burton latimer (kettering). one of the guys said he went on a tour of the factory and it put him off eating weetabix for life!!
Darth_Tuba
08.09.2003, 13:46
I think that's true of almost anything you eat or drink when you see it being made at the factory stage. I worked in a wines and spirits bottling place last year over summer, and that almost put me off the stuff! (Note almost! )

I'm definitely a Hot man in the winter, nowt to get you get you warmed up like hot weetabix! although you need more milk and more sugar than normal!!
Will eat them cold in summer.
Hot milk and Grape Nuts is gorgeous too...
What Naomi said about students experimenting, try these 2 gorgeous :? recipes:
1) Pasta a la Gravy..... Surprisingly nice
2) Poulet avec Weetabix - chicken breast in a casserole dish, add an italian style tomato sauce (non of this out of a jar rubbish, home-made if you please!!), crumble in a weetabix, stir well, add a weetabix topping, cook until cooked!!

I had this response from weetabix!!!
Dear Mr Benson
Many thanks for your enquiry and for the referral to your site.
Weetabix hot or cold, is a subject aired by consumers on many occasions and no doubt the debate will run. We know many enjoy Weetabix with hot milk, especially in winter while others prefer the immediate crunch with a little cold milk. Some, like one of your members, prefer to use it as a savoury biscuit topped with butter, cream and or preserves. It all goes to show the versatility of Weetabix!
Whichever method is chosen, we hope you all continue to enjoy Weetabix for many years to come.
Thanks once again for getting in touch. It was great to hear from you.
Yours sincerely

COLD
place weetabix in dish, pour cold milk AROUND NOT OVER weetabix sprinkle with loads of sugar. Must be eaten quickly so bottom of weetabix is soggy but top is crispy

There was an article in a newspaper about strange food combos a couple of months back.
Can't recall seeing weetabix and marmite or ribena and milk in there but kippers and strawberry jam was there and sandwiches on carnation milk to name but two :? :?
Cheese and jam sadwiches are my own favourite :D
Weetabix aghhhhhhhh
Leave it in the box.

Weetabix
Is this more of your blasted Yorkshire Slang??? ;)
Seriously what are Weetabix? A type of cereal?
"When I were a lad", (which I wouldn't have said then 'cause I was in Zumerzet), I ate cereal, (don't touch the stuff now). In the Winter months, Mummy always served it with warm milk, and the 'cream of the crop' was WEETABIX - the warm milk infused into the wheat flakes, and with a careful manouvering of the spoon, produced a kind of WEETASOUP - mmmmmm - o to return to my chidhood.
Before I went off milk , used to eat Weetabix with a small amount of hot milk and loads of sugar, so that it had the consistency of clay.
Don't touch the stuff now.
Have also been known to eat it "dry" with jam on top........................

I don't like milk either. I used to eat my weetabix scrunched up with LOTS of sugar on top. Haven't voted because there's not an option for me.
I don't like milk either.
WHAT?? What is with these people??? Milk is easily the pinnacle of all animal-juice products!
Anyway, I always ate my weetabix with cold milk, and try to get them all down before they go soggy... pretty difficult when going for manly 3-bix brekkie...

Friend of mine was always telling how "in the good old days" weetabix used to be much stronger, and how they would spread them with jam and eat them like that
Mmmmm weetabix! Cold milk & buckets of sugar for me please.
They have to be eaten just before they get to the soggy mush stage, then they are lovely!! mmmm

They were right, Peter. It used to take a lot more effort to "scrunch them up" than it does now. (Although I was a lot younger and possibly more feeble in those days...)

Need 'both' option on there folks. I usually have them cold in warm weather and hot in cold weather but never, never, never with sugar. Sometimes with honey if I need a sugar fix, and always with a full pint of proper milk - that way it doesn't go gloopy.
Roger, I'm with you on the Ribena thing. We regularly had Ribena milk shakes when we were little, but I can't drink it now it's too sweet. :( (In fact even lemon juice is too sweet for me these days :) )
