i'd never have anything peirced!
but on lasses it can look nice - with some people you just think WHY!!!!!!!!!!!
I have my ears pierced! During the last 10 years or so I have contemplated getting nose, belly button etc pierced but always wimped out!!! Now though, I am glad I did not get them done - I cannot stand pain anyway!!!

Well it depends where they are really!! When I was at uni loads of people got their tongue pierced *ouch* I also knew 2 brass players that got it done and, after a while once it has settled in, they seemed to adapt back to playing fine. I had my ears pierced 3 times but I don't normally wear them that much and only ever the one set now. That is mainly down to the fact that they will be literally healed up and it would hurt!
I do have a tattoo though (think I have mentioned it b4) it's 2 quavers really small on my right ankle. That absolutely killed and it only took 2 mins!! I wouldn't get another one but I do like the one I have!

i have my ears pierced and would like my nose done sometime and the top of my ear done too...
As for belly button piercings.... NO WAY!!!
If you're a lass who then wants kids, just think what happens to the holes!! Eeeewwww!!! Not a nice thought
Tongue piercings stink! Just read on it...
Nose piercings the only thing I can think that isn't great bout it is blowing your nose; all the boggie leaking out the hole... not great... but it wouldn't hurt getting it done... It's just skin... :D
When I had my ears done I had to ask if it was all over cos I didn't feel it, lol!

A school friend called Rosie pierced my ear in the yard at school, hurt like hell, she just pushed a stud through it; then, in a stupid adolescent moment I added another one night with a safety pin. (1977, had just seen the Sex Pistols at the Penthouse in Scarborough) I've also got a celtic tattoo, but you need to know me VERY well to see that one. (Just kidding, it's on the top of my arm.) I think they can look good in the right place and on the right person...but you don't know until you've had it done....aye..there's the rub........

I'd never have a piercing or a tattoo. Must hurt a little bit even ears. I think body piercing looks awful.
a cornet player in an ex-band of mine once told us he had a cornet tattooed in, erm, a delicate area...but that on a good day it looked more like a trumpet  he never proved his claim!
I think on the right person tattoos can look fantastic...sadly I am not one of them! as for piercing...ears are my absolute pain limit.
I have none. Never understood the point to be honest.
Having seen the prices, it looks like a LOT of a rip-off.
You could get holes punched in a leather watch strap for far less. And leather's tougher.

I don't have any particularly strong views on tattoos, but sometimes people tend to forget that what looks impressive on a fit young man looks rather different once that person gets a little older.
When working in residential work a few years ago one of our residents had been in the merchant navy most of his working life, and was absolutely covered in tattoos, which looked quite out of place on this little 80 year-old, mild-mannered gentleman.
Also, be aware that some employers are not happy for any tattoos to be visible, and some cultures view it very differently, as a number of England fans found when they tried to go to Japan in the last World Cup - tattoos only being sported by gangsters in Japan :!:

true enough, but I am prepared to limit my tattoo viewing to those young fit men! :D
Oo - it seems that most people on this forum don't really like piercing!! I went through a piercing phase about 10 years ago. First thing I had done was my nose, followed by the bellybutton, followed by the tragus (ear), the daith (ear) and then finally the tongue!
Yuk, I can hear you all say. They have now all gone apart from the belly and the tragus. Although I can still wear jewellery in my nose and tongue as they have never healed.
Unlike tatoos which are obviously permanent, you always have the choice to remove any piercing without leaving too much damage. As long as you haven't had numerous holes punched into various parts of your face!!! :?

I like discreet piercings, such as ears and belly buttons on some people. And I think that only a few people actually suit facial piercings.
I also like discreet tattoos, like a little tiny one just below the hip or something, or like sparkly's on her ankle.
I haven't got one and I just have three ear holes, two in one ear and one in the other!

Ohhhh piercing....all i can say on that is OUCH, no way i would, just sounds too painful.
Funny though didn't bother me sitting through 2, 3 hour sessions of tattooing but i just couldn't face a piercing!
There's a girl that works in the Lush shop in Nottingham that seems to have quite a fw piercings - she has these spikes coming out of her eyebrows, lip, nose, ears (multiple) and no doubt several other places. She had a close-cropped hair cut and was quite gorgeous - I found it all very sexy, though I think it wouldn't suit everybody.
I have no piercings at all, and I don't plan to, or tattoos. I find some piecings and tatts rather pleasing on the eye though ;)
*shudders at the thought of tattooes on the eye*
what will they think of next?

When I worked for Environmental Health we had a book in all about body art and piercings. It seemed pretty safe at first with sketches and methods all about piercings and tatoos. Then it got more and more graphic and the photos got more and more intimate....
All I can say is OOOOOOUUUUUCCCCCHHHHHH! and WHY ????????????????????? :? :? :? :?
It made my eyes water just looking at it!
Our old flugal/cornet/bari/tromb player had a Prince Albert, plus a few other piercings. Never did show it to anyone though. 8)

This comment really makes me laugh. I have 2 tattoos and I think that right now as a young man they look good.
I admit that when I'm 70 they might not look so cool. but then again by that stage I'll be wearing trousers that come up to my nipples, and have a face like droopy, so I think the tattoos will be the least of my worries.

Are you sure that's not "nipples that come down to my trousers"?
When I was at Uni, I had my right eyebrow pierced and had a silver hoop through it, then I opted for a blue titanium bar to go through instead. I never took it out until I had to go to my Grandad's funeral. Needless to say I never put it back in. I also had it put in without anaesthetic, because your not allowed to freeze an area above the mouth outside of hospital. (So I was told at the time)
However I am still wanting to get a tattoo done, but I think I might try a henna one, because at least they wear off in time. Lets face it, most of these impulses for some people are only fashion statements at the end of the day!!!!!

You need so much more...
Antonio Aguero (Cuba) has 230 piercings on his body and head. His face alone holds over 175 rings.
Tom Leppard (UK) is the most tattooed man, with 99.9% of his body tattooed, strangely enough, in the form of Leapard-skin - dark spots on a yellow background. He estimates that he spent over £5,000 on his tattoos.

Oooh, that brings back painful memories of when I had mine pierced! It was all quite a new innovation then and I don't think they were really too sure what to advise for the healing process. I was told to put Hydrogen Peroxide on the scab!!!! I put that stuff on every day and thought it was working well as it was fizzing!!! It took nearly a year to heal (I kid you not) until I got fed up, bought a tube of savlon and the bloomin thing cleared up within a week!!!!
Never Again!!

I have my ears piereced, only one. I had them done when out for the day with my mothers friend (aged 10 months). Needless to say my mother went totally off her head! The holes are still there and although I do not wear earrings everyday, they never seem to close up!
I would NEVER consider having any other piercings or tattos anywhere on my body. I simply don't see the point in piercings in certain places. As for tatoos - one day people get old and wrinkly and the thought of wrinkled tattos is just eeeurrrgggh!

2 peircings in one ear, one in the other, but would like some more. Also got 2 tattoos now. The 2nd one hurt so much more than the first one but that might have been because I was watching Blackadder all through the first one and had nothing to concentrate on during the second one...
I have nothing against tattoos (obviously) but I would say try to get something that means something to you and is unique. Don't be a lemming and have your girlfriend's name misspelled in Hindi just because some dozy footballer did...

Can't say i'm a fan of piercings. Tops of ears i like. And eyebrows can also be ok on some people. But not really a fan of any others.
Always fancied having my lip pierced but would pose a few playing problems i guess so that idea went out the window!

I haven't got any piercings or tattooes myself, but my younger brother decided to get a tattoo on his arm. Nothing huge or spectacular, just some Japanese characters. They were supposed to say something along the lines of 'Natural leader' and it does look nice.
One of my best friends from uni just happens to be Japanese. The nearest translation he (and his friends) could come up with for the characters permanently etched into my brother's arm, was 'Blood Guts' I of course was highly sympathetic with little bro and p****d myself laughing :D . He still hasn't told our Mum what it says
My Japanese mate was also telling me, in Japan, you have to cover tattooes up in swimming baths because, as someone already mentioned, the Yakuza are usually the only Japanese people with them.

How strange is that?
Eyebrow has a hole in it too, although I rarely decorate it.

I wanna get a tat,
wld u recommend gettin one????
i wanna get one of either a dolphin, butterfly or an egyptian symbol
I have my Labrett pierced - the bit about a 5mm under ya bottom lip. Talk about pain!!The area was "numbed" but it hurt like a B*****d! http://instagiber.net/smiliesdotcom/contrib/AoErat/emb.gif Basically skewerd my lip and put a bar thru it. Then the anesthetic wore off!!!
My advise is DONT DO IT!!
Its OK now though - even after the months of pain when I accidently hooked the back of it on me teeth when I ate something until it properly healed - that was two years ago, before I started playing.
I am also tattoo'd 3 times - 3 hours of a needle constantly *****ing me doesnt compare to having a knitting needle shoved thro me bottom lip!!

i have both ears pierced and a more 'intimate' piercing (no not THAT intimate rudie!).
i wanted my nose done but my mum has serious issues with that so i got this non-visible one done instead (and still havnt told her :S ) at the end of the day the only ppl who see it are me and those i choose to show! and if i want to take it out it will heal in a day. i understand why it's not to everyone's taste tho...each to their own as they say :)
i know a girl who got a VERY VERY intimate piercing when she was 15/16. now that is crazy!
and i plan to have a tatoo done in the future, most probably along a musical theme :)
