Roger Thorne

This is the story of Roger Thorne
Who for many years played Tenor Horn,
He was born in the year of ‘58
And is known as ‘Thorney’ to all his mates.
He started on Cornet at the age of eleven,
Progressed to Soprano up there in heaven,
For 14 years he played up in the God’s
But now resides as a Mouthpiece Mod.
For many years he played in bands
Travelling by coach up and down the land
There’s many a tale and lot’s of adventures
Particularly the one’s where he lost his dentures!
During the seventies he started to write
All through the day and into the night,
He’d spend hours and hours composing tunes
And once wrote a piece to be played on the spoons!
He’s conducted and played for many a band
And is always happy to lend a hand,
In 1990 he took over at Wem
And still waves the stick in front of them.
He set up Thornes Music in ‘95
Since then his business has started to thrive
His music is played by bands worldwide
So there’s no turning back, and there’s nowhere to hide!
In the year 2000 The Rotary Club ran
“An award for Roger”, for what he had done
With his music for Brass in various clefs
“We award him a fellowship - called the PHF”
He regularly conducts the tMP Band
And is proud to wag with stick or with hand,
“There’s nowt as good as hearing them play,
Especially at Whit’s in’t middle of May”.
As the years drift by, he’s getting old
So there’s no more verses to be told
You’ll now find him moderating on tMP
So please drop by for a cup of tea.
He’s married to Salli his long suffering wife
But she love’s him to bits, Oh! ain’t that nice,
They’ve two wonderful kids called Becky and Tom
And the adopted family at the Mouthpiece.com
