When at the Miners Contest a few weeks ago a streaker ran past the hotel we were in on the saturday night. It was obviously a drunk bandsman....just wondered if anyone was gonna admit to it???!
You're obviously not admitting to it then? ;)

well pontins is great coz it is soo cheap and there are also no taxi fares!
you can roll back to the cabin....
the main bar doesn't seem to close until about 6 although the entertainment isn't usually classy!!
a few thousand bandspersons with a place with a license from 9am what more can you ask for???!

I think Pontins is a great contest and a great social weekend.
Are you sure that the streaker was a man sparkling quavers? If so, how did you know?

Hmmm... certainly cheap for the weekend (if you're going for value for money in the entertainment stakes) but I don't think the bar is.
I've had many interesting experiences at Pontin's...
Probably the most bizarre was my mate jumping off the balcony and landing on his back about 6 times (we kept telling him to do it again cos at least one of our "crew" hadn't seen him do it)
And then there was the time I got shut outside the chalet wearing only a towel, which was trapped in the door, and told the only way back in was to run once round the "square"....
Boy, have I got to get back there again next year!

well the bar is not much worse than most other contest bars! The worse one I have found was the midlands area!! I spent about 100 pounds for the weekend and I drank quite alot! so I don't think you can complain about that...at least the band doesn't have to fork out for hotel bills....that is when it gets expensive

The bar is ace-I discovered this year that they give 'gob****e discount' on a big round if you ask

They dont normally announce the tests for the CISWO ( thats the mine workers for you heathens) untill later in the year.
They a normally the wrong way round with the 1st section getting something good and the top section playing 4 little maids.

The Old CISWO mineworkers championships in Blackpool used to be brilliant.
1993 was one of the last years it was sponsered by BASS , in the doorway to the ballroom you had two massive inflatable cans of BASS , which the Point of Ayr band tried many times to get on the band bus...unfortunatly the security didnt let us have them..only for them to be nicked by a young Paul Hughes and half of Grimey in tow.. :D
Loads of surreal moments too with our conductor at the time Bjorn Sagstad enjoying a few medicianal beers wearing a massive rubber viking helmet...Class

As an occasion for socialising (not just sitting at a bar table getting blatherred with your mates) I find that Easingwold march competition on a fine summers evening takes some beating. Its great to wander between the pubs in the square meeting old acquaintances and listening to the bands as they march past.
Bliss ............................... especially when it dosen't rain!!
