View Full Version : Anyone going to Rhyl?
Anyone going to the Rhyl Festival of Brass on the 22nd of June? We will be competing in the Second Section this year.
Conducting our band on the day is theMouthPiece's very own Roger Thorne! And I believe Elin (twigglet), Alex (Jones) and Steph (Evans) are also helping us out.
This is another great example of the success of theMouthPiece.com - the contacts made through this site have enabled us to enter this contest as we are missing a couple of players due to work commitments and exams.
Cheers Roger - we look forward to meeting you all!!

Rhyl Festival of Brass
We have the details of the Festival to be held in North Wales on the weekends of 15th and 22nd June. Plenty of bands taking part as well.
Press Release: Rhyl Festival of Brass 2003
The 12th Rhyl Festival of Brass will be held this year at its’ traditional location in the Rhyl Pavilion Theatre on Sunday 15th & 22nd June.
Established in 1992 by Mr Giles Ballisat and Gwynfor Davies it has become a permanent fixture on the Brass Band calendar and attracts 100s of bandsmen and women from all over the country. This year is no exception with 30 bands, including 6 Youth Bands, competing and 72 entries in the Solo, Duet & Quartet sections with children as young as 5 Years of age competing for honours.
This year the festival has a new director, Del Thomas who has taken over the mantle from Ron Smith who retired last year. Del, 30, who hails from Llanidloes in Mid-Wales has been involved in banding since the age of 10 firstly with the North Powys Youth Brass Band with whom he toured Germany twice and a 3 week tour of Canada under the direction of the aptly-named Mr Gordon Tune. He has been a member of Newtown Silver Band for the past 7 years and is now chairman and junior band conductor there.
“I met up with Val Simmons, Rhyl Pavilions' Deputy Manager at a theatre meeting several months ago when we discussed the Rhyl Festival of Brass and its' lack of a director. I volunteered to take the role on as I have an affection for the contest and a passion for the Brass Band movement. I have now been involved since January in the planning and organisation of the festival and am really looking forward to this years contest”. “The contest really puts the area on the map and in association with SeaQuarium, Sky Tower and Sun Centre, we will be offering 2 for 1 entry for all visiting band members” he continued.
North Wales Bands competing this year are; Rhyl Silver, Royal Buckley, Beaumaris ‘B’, Conwy, Wrexham, Llanrug, Deiniolen, Northop Youth Band and Abergynolwyn. Rhyl Silver will be competing in the top section against some of the best bands in the U.K. The format involves each band performing a 20-minute concert programme for the adjudicators which inevitably makes it a particularly entertaining and varied contest. Anything goes from the finest marches through to the works of Mozart, Gershwin or even modern day pop music.
Admission for the full-day is £5 and £4 for concessions which represents superb value for what is effectively 10 hours of entertainment.
For further information, please contact the Rhyl Pavilion theatre on (01745) 332414.

Hope to see some of you there.

Rhyl should be good on Sunday, looking forward to going with Deiniolen, who are a great bunch. Have a feeling they might also enjoy the four or five hours free before results aswell! I'm going to have to control myself because I have a politics exam at 9 on monday morning.....these exams boards are so inconsiderate.
So if anyone fancies a day out to Rhyl, come and clap loudly for Deiniolen.
Please come and clap for United Co op Crewe in the top section too.
In fact you can make as much noise clapping and cheering as you want.
Is your band playing Heather? I might bump into you at Rhyll on Sunday then!
Yeah...I'll look out for you. you can buy me a drink!

See you all tomorrow.
