The following has been released to the press:

Bude Metric Brass have announced that they will be holding a Memorial Concert in honour of Yvonne Gay, wife of Musical Director Colin, who recently passed away following a brave fight against breast cancer. The Concert, which came from a suggestion made by Yvonne herself before she died, will be held in the Parkhouse Centre on Saturday 14th February 2009 and will be in aid of Yvonne’s chosen charities, Cornwall Air Ambulance and Breakthrough Breast Cancer.

Colin said that "It should be an extravagant evening of some of her favourite band music, and this is reflected in the challenging programme that I have already produced for Bude Metric Brass to play”. The Band agreed that this should be an “open” band concert with 'Metrics' being the host band, but that anyone who can play a brass instrument and knew Yvonne would be invited to join in. “We have had considerable interest from players both locally and further afield where we previously lived”, said Colin, “It should be a night for Bude to remember, and we hope that it will be a fitting tribute to Yvonne’s memory”.

Alan Lafferty, Organiser for Bude Metric Brass said, “We have asked the RAOB St Michaels Lodge to help us with the Concert logistics. Clearly the Band will be on stage concentrating on the music, so we are very grateful that the RAOB have kindly agreed to look after the smooth running of the front of house.” He added, “If this Concert is a success the Band hope that it will become an annual event, raising money for charities.”

Bude Metric Brass rehearse on Monday evenings at St Petroc’s School, Ocean View Road, Bude, and anyone who would like to take part in the Concert is welcome to join them.
