Saturday 1st of April saw the first ever public performance given by the Ystrad Mynach Boys and Girls Club Brass Band. Playing to celebrate the re-opening of the club following it's recent refurbishment and in front of an audience including parents, councillors, past club members (including one who joined the club in 1936!) and trustees, the band performed 4 pieces from the pen of Stuart Johnson and were conducted by Jonathon Whatley. Also playing before and after the ceremony were a senior quintet formed by the bands tutors and helpers. Special thanks go to Phil Austin who came to watch his daughter play and finished up sight reading the tuba parts to cover a player who phoned in sick. Overall the performance was very well received, bringing the club and the band to the attention of a wide range of new supporters.

More information about the band can be found at www.ymjband.org
