Winning the 4th section Midland Area Championships in March. Then winning the 4th section at Wychaven and then coming 4th in the 3rd.But the experience for most of our band actually competing at Harrogate for the 1st time. Then on top of that being promoted to the 3rd section.

Way too many things to mention - 2007 has been fantastic thus far:

    - finding my niche in life as a second baritone player
    - taking up the trombone in order to go on Chalgrove's Band tour to Minehead and the band tour to Minehead.
    - going to the Proms Day in July
    - going to Butlins for the first time, and playing in the Big Blow record attempt.

    - completing my MSc in Information and Library Management and getting a distinction (despite feeling that I was spending more time on band things than studying!).
    - getting my first two professional positions
    - meeting and spending time with my lovely boyfriend

Being a part of the formation of a new band (Darwen Brass) at the start of the year, and later coming fourth out of seven in only our second contest at St Helens.

lots of high points, but set off against some lows. Apart from the band, nothing really remarkable.

For me, it's getting a transfer to another department at work back in April and then getting promoted 4 months later!

Oh, and getting my own baritone at long last (haven't had my "own" instrument for 12 years). Details are in the "What did you get for Christmas" thread:

2007 has been a fantastic year for me with lots of Banding Highlights . . . .

Firstly, being the MD of a happy, friendly and successful band
Winning the 3rd Section Area Championships (Midlands)
Recording our fourth commercial CD (KMJ Recordings)
Winning the 3rd Section - Wychavon Festival of Brass
    (also winning best percussion section)
    Appearing at the National Finals
My Daughter playing the Xylophone Solo William Tell
My Son, Tom, joining the percussion section in Senior Band and last weekend winning the Junior Bandsman of the year award.

    Having an understanding family
My Daughter, Becky, passing her driving test.

As far as banding goes, for me it has to be:
    - Winning the 1st Section Northern Area
    - Performing at the National Finals and coming 7th
    - Winning Section A at the Durham League

It's been a great year - my best yet. Can't wait to see what 2008 brings!

Banding has to be winning the 1st section areas in the west country. That cornet part was tough in parts but what a beautiful piece. Then changing Band and back to my beloved flugel and to a band that always seems to have something good to look forward too, sell out concerts, nicely spaced out contests and a really good social life. CD recording next year.
Personally - loads of things, so many... too many to mention...XXX

Banding: Whilst I still get real satisfaction from conducting Mid Sussex Brass, getting the opportunity this last year to return to the Soprano chair has been my main highligh - thanks to MrsH and the guys & gals at Brighton & Hove City Brass for making that happen!
Secondly, the rersugance at Uckfield - having spent too many years as part of the small team trying to keep it afloat and having come so close to folding this year, finishing the year as we have has been magical.

Personal: finally doing the deal on our home in Portugal - can't wait to take posession in April!

    My two biggest highlights were...

    1) Starting our first annual brass band event in Columbus, OH, USA (The Ohio Brass Arts Festival)...and having it be so successful that year two is moving from a Sunday Afternoon to an entire weekend...and year three has some incredible potential already in the works!

    2) Finishing the Baritone CD project (still a few i's to dot and t's to cross, but it is all but in the can).

Both are really groundbreaking from at least one perspective....and I didn't really have the knowledge to get through either, but had excellent support from various parties.

Getting back to a full-time job after 9 months out (and its a great job too!)
