Young Ambassadors complete their 75th tour! Over the Easter bank holiday weekend the 'Young Ambassadors Brass Band Of Great Britain' (affectionately known as YABB), led by Frank Wolff, completed a whirlwind tour of Luxembourg. This is the staggering 75th international tour for the band, which has been running since 1978. The player line-up of the band changes with every tour, and hundreds of high-quality musicians from around Great Britain have taken part in the YABB 'scratch' band over the years. The band played 5 concerts, including Luxembourg City, Berbourg, Diekirch and Echternach, and enjoyed a warm reception at each venue. Concerts featured a wide range of music such as Florentiner March, Lightwalk, Riverdance, Get Happy, and to celebrate the 250th anniversary year of the birth of Mozart the band also featured popular items such as the Magic Flute overture and Elvira Madigan. The concerts also featured some superb soloists, these were Steve Gilbey (principal cornet), Claire Taylor (soprano cornet), John Squires-Evans (flugel and posthorn), Helen Varley (solo horn), Kieran Joy (solo trombone), Jason Nowell (bass trombone), Shawn Pagington (solo euphonium) and Chris Barnes (Eb bass). Due to last minute illness the band were short of a percussionist, and special mention should go to Scott Clarke who took up the challenge of assistant percussionist and also to coach driver James Emberson who took up the cornet for the first time in three years to take Scott's place on 3rd cornet. Many thanks also go to the stranger in the audience of the bandstand concert at Place D'Armes who bought the band several bottles of champagne!
