Nice one Ian. Makes a change from favorite sausage, bacon or pork chop! ;)

However, I'm a bit disappointed in the test-pieces chosen for my year of birth (1973):

Open: "The Accursed Huntsman" César Franck, arr. E. Siebert
    Nationals: "Freedom" Hubert Bath

    1976 - I'm quite excited actually...

Nationals - Sinfonietta - Eric Ball
Open - Epic Symphony - Percy Fletcher - which is my current fvourite piece - absolutely gorgeous middle movement and some marvellous stuff.

I always said '76 was a quality year!

Open: Carnival, Helen Perkin - so she'd done it before!

Championship: Variations for Brass Band, Vaughan Williams. Since I wasn't born until a month after the contest, there must be another reason why I dislike that piece so much - oh yes, I beggared it up last year...

1979 was also the 2nd year that the Belgian Nationals were organised, and the set piece was "Vrolijk in Brass" (which translates to "Cheerful in Brass" :s ) by Marcel Poot

Same here, however the testpiece for the 1973 Nationals should have been Contest Music, but it was deemed too hard.
