'Peace and Goodwill to all men and other bands' should be the motto at Newstead Band this Christmas, following on from a 6 month project to make a CD and a DVD with the National Heritage Lottery Fund. The Newstead Band, Carlton Main Frickley Band and Desford are all taking part in concerts at Newstead Welfare and Community Centre.

The CD is part of a wider project supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund which will result in copies of the CD and a companion DVD containing pictures, photos and interviews with colliers, bandsmen and their families being provided to schools across the east midlands as both a social history curriculum resource and an introduction to the world of the brass band. The CD is also available on sale from band members.

Carlton-Main-Frickley Colliery band are the latest visitors in the 'Sunday Night Brass' concerts in the Newstead Miners Welfare and Community Centre Concert Hall. The Yorkshire band will be performing on Sunday December 18th The concert begins at 8.00 pm and admission is just £1.

Following this the final concert of this mini series is between Xmas and New Year on Friday 30th December at 8 pm. This concert will feature the Newstead Band together with soloists from the Desford Band. Everyone welcome.

A further series is planned for the New Year.
