Right thought i'd start this off as the whole thing kicks off this weeked :woo

Greenalls are going and playing in the Second Division. Everyone has told me what a great event it is so really looking forward to it now.

Excellent set test in 'Psalms & Alleluias' by Philip Wilby. Not sure if we're allowed to say our own choice, but it's a classic from Eric Ball ;)

So who else is going? Don't even know how many other bands in our section as the official website doesn't seem to list them.

The WMC website makes great reading thanks to Google translator:
"the WMC to the most important and most talked-about music in the world you the surprising versatility of Brass experienced" :D
Good luck to Ratby and all other UK bands going!

Did you try the english version of the site?

"The World Music Contest is internationally recognised as the most significant international festival for music for wind and brass instruments. During the WMC, the most important and high-profile bands from around the world will introduce you to the amazing variety of music for wind and brass instruments."

I think it's allowed to tell your own choice, since the pieces are printed in the program...
Strange, because I thought the adjudicatiosn was closed for the brass band section of the WMC (the wind band, fanfare band and of course the marching band contests are open adjudication)

I can't be there to watch the brass bands unfortunately, because we have a try-out concert on saturday,a nd I have a BBQ to go to on saturday, but I will be going to listen to the wind bands on Sunday the 26th and of course we will be playing with our own band on Sunday the 2nd of August (the last day of the WMC)

Good luck to all participants and enjoy the great atmosphere in Kerkrade!

    Good luck to Cory.

The post is by a member of Cory, so it can be trusted.

Don't know any results from the lower sections though.

My first visit to Kerkrade, and it was a great trip. Would definitely recommend any bands thinking about going to apply for the next one. Disappointed with our result, but pleased with our performance. The standard of the other bands in the 2nd Division was impressive.

Congrats to all the bands. It was great to sit in on both of Cory's rehearsals in the Rolduc on Saturday and Sunday, gutted i wasn't able to make their performances, as i heard they were outstanding. I also heard Brass Band Heist rehearsing, and again they were very impressive, as shown in their win.

Slightly disappointing was the band that was meant to have played in the square after the results on Saturday but failed to show up. The organisers were panicking and as some of our band were still in the Car Park asked if we could play instead. Unfortunately as most of us had already dispersed we couldn't do it. Real shame and would be surprised if they get invited back again. Don't know the reasons why, so i'm not going to name the band as there may have been a genuine reason.

Anyway, great weekend, great contest, great atmosphere.

    It is :)
I can't be there this weekend, beacuse we are rehearsing all weekend. Of course you're welcome to stop by if you want. We're rehearsing in Neerpelt, about 1h driving from Kerkrade (accross the border in belgium of course, but closer to Eindhoven than to Kerkrade or Maastricht)

Good luck over there, hope you enjoy it.

Everyone is really friendly and helpful, and the square after the contests is excellent.

If you need a Cornet/Trumpet/Anything for the weekend let me know and i'll gladly go back ;)

Very impressive and congratulations on your win:)

I liked this clip of your piece, who wrote it?
  18. Jan H

    Jan H Moderator Staff Member

Kevin Houben (not related to myself ;) ), a young Belgian composer (who has already written some pieces for brass band as well).
The vocal part is based on Gregorio Allegri's "Miserere", a 17th century choral piece. The piece was especially written for the contest (Kevin plays trumpet in our band normally, but he didn't participate in this contest - too busy composing...)

When I get the DVD, i will try to put some more excerpts from our other pieces on youtube as well.
