Following on from the excellent result at the area contest, Wingates Band is delighted to announce that it has strengthened its ranks further still and made some organisational changes.

Returning to the band from YBS is Mick Morris. He joins on Solo EEb Bass with Andy Wyatt stepping down to 2nd EEb to replace Graeme Hall following his departure to join Black Dyke as Band Manager.

Also joining the band from YBS on tuned percussion is local virtuoso Andrea Crossley. This is a real coup for Wingates and seeks to underline the impetus that the band now has in moving forward. She joins fellow recent recruit Angela Fellowes who made her debut with the band at the recent area contest and the two other valued members of the percussion team Pat Noone and Paul Sibbert. Arguably this is the finest percussion section in the history of Wingates Band!

Another excellent debutante for Wingates at the Area was Lucy Pankhurst on Solo Horn. Lucy joins from the Leyland Band and brings with her a depth of musical talent in the guise of her composition and arranging abilities.

As a result of the recent band AGM the band has also made changes off the field!
Barry Bentley was elected Band Chairman, having been Chairman-elect for some months following the retirement of Ken Littler. Andy Wyatt takes over as band secretary, though a slimmed down version of the massive role vacated by Graeme Hall, Stuart Bateson takes over as treasurer from Phil Lightfoot who has excelled in the role for several years and remains on the committee as an officer. We welcome Bass Trombonist Adrian Bird to the committee as Band Sargeant exactly a year after his joining the band from Marsden. Remaining officers are Sue and Andy MacDonald, Mark Hart and Tony Berry – lead singer with the Houghton Weavers and father of 2nd Trombone Tom. Terry Holden and Tommy Dockerty remain as band trustees.

Wingates Band is also pleased to announce that band PR Manager David Kaye has also recently accepted the invitation to become the new Band President. David works tremendously hard behind the scenes for the band in addition to his responsibilities as MD of Krones UK and the band considers itself lucky that its number 1 fan is also now its President!
