Does anyone have or know where I could hire one of them old wind machines with a handle on the side to rotate it for a wind effect, im doing a production of mary poppins and that is needed.

I'd imagine your local percussion hire firm might be your best bet, or else they could do some hunting for you further afield. Opera North might have one, or know where you could get hold of one...

Why not just use a recording?

You'd have to play it pretty loud to get things to blow about though.

I'm assuming because this is a notated part for wind machine, which has to be played in live, rather than for a general sound effect.

yer it needs to be live really, ive tried most perc hire and stage prop hire places but still no luck, will keep trying though.

I am amazed and very disapointed at the lack of ribald comments to this post!!! To which end,I'm sure our bb bassist would be more than willing to provide both wind and sound effects. (hold ya nose though)

When wind noise was needed for aschool production a few years ago I used an old analogue synthersizer (Roland SH09).

Try contacting Halifax Playhouse Theatre, King Cross Road. I'm sure that they will have one.
