Recently printed in my company's newsletter . . . Deer Mistakenly Enter Nursing Home The windows are deceivingly clean at Somerset Center in Ohio. In fact, so clean that several deer recently got confused and entered the facility. After entering a resident room, they realized their mistake but had a hard time finding their way out again. The nursing unit had to be temporarily locked down. One deer quickly found its way out through a window in another resident room. The second deer got trapped in yet a third resident room, and the door was quickly shut as the facility waited for the police to come to its aid. According to Administrator Donna Garza,"The deer had also tried to get into a second unit, but our dementia residents just weren't having any of that nonsense." Fortunately, no one was hurt and the property damage was limited to three broken windows and a rose vase. Donna further commented that the prize for the calmest resident goes to a 102 year-old resident who, after the deer came in, sat in her chair as it walked within two feet of her to jump out of her window. The bravest person in Somerset goes to the police department who entered the closed room with the trapped deer to chase it out of the window. Best deer catcher goes to one of the new RNs who helped sweet talk the second deer out of the window.
