OK, so thats got your attention i hope!

why is it that us folks at tMP can't produce a band for Whit Friday?
what is stopping you from coming?

The forum has managed to produce a band from its very early days. There were far fewer members than we have now, but there are fewer signing up.

Is this is sign of a change in the forum, or can folks just not be Bothered (for want of a better word!).
i personally have been attending these events since the very first one, and love every minuet. It was what the forum for me was all about. Making friends over the WWW, then getting together a couple of times a year and having a flipin good time.

    So, whats stopping you?

I post this, not as a mod, or other interested party in the back ground, but as one of the very first members of this forum.

I have made some fabulous friends on here, and theses friendships grew when ever we met up.

    many thanks for your time.

Craig. (hopefully looking forward to another great tMp get together!):tup

I'd love to play in a concert with tMp on another date but I'll be playing with Littleborough on Whit Friday.

I would love to come but as my appointment book is full til the middle of June there's no way I could get chance to have a day off work!!

I agree, the tMP events are great fun, but also I (probably wrongly) feel that as I'm hardly ever on tMP these days I don't really warrant inclusion - plus there are always loads of flugels!

  4. The Whit Fridays are the dog's wotsits of a banding experience.
Unfortunately we got a concert on the Saturday and I don't think I would have recovered in time (drinking, laughing, socialising, oh and playing!).

Also 'She Who Must Be Obeyed' probably wouldn't have let me go anyway!

I'd love to .... but if I posted here it would be obvious I'd have to bunk a day of school to come along!

The one year it was in the May holiday I went along with Tilbury band and I had a great weekend and I would love to do it again sometime.

I'd love to come again but my Band's got a job that night and I have to catch a bus at 2:50 am to get to Gatwick so that I can fly to Florida next morning. Isn't life a drag

I would come but Himself is already playing for Jag and I can`t call in another weekend of babysitting from my mum. She has to make a 400 mile round trip each time so its just not fair to ask too often.

Having never been, I'd love to play. What instruments are required?

Anything but cornet would do me. 3rd section these days.

I love marches and I love beer.

My first experience of Whit Friday as a player was with the TMP Band. It was a terrific experience!

However, I've only done it the once with TMP as my own band has been out on Whit Friday every year since then. If Flixton weren't going to Whit Friday, then I would definately sign up for the TMP Band.

I don't really get it either Craig - it's not as if we have a horrid time after all is it:wink:!! It's a great opportunity for those from around Britain who wouldn't otherwise get the chance to play and enjoy the special Whit Friday experience!!

I signed up yesterday, so hopefully we will be able to drum up enough support by the deadline!! Some people may have a hang up about playing for a scratch band but I urge anyone who is even thinking about it to do it - you'll love every minute of it I'm sure!!

If tMP doesn't get a band together I may look for another band who may have gaps in because I really do enjoy it that much!!

Hope to see you there Craig (perhaps people are scared of signing up due to the plethora of soprano cornets!!)....... ;)

Just to ask, what would the uniform be, just in case your looking out for the tMp band.

I might see the band at some contests if we get round enough.

I'd sign up myself if I hadn't had calls from 4 other bands.

No can do for anyone I'm afraid.

    College Assessment the day before

    Ebbw Vale contest day after...

Same here - if we weren't going I'd be looking for a band to do it with. Incidentally the same goes for the Pontins band for the last few years; if I hadn't been playing at the contest I'd have signed up.

I wonder if possibly some of those who used to be regulars in the Whit Friday scratch band have gone back to their "home" bands so enthused by the Whit Friday experience that they have convinced their band to give it a go; there certainly seem to be a few more bands every year, especially at the "major" venues like Delph.

I always wanted to play at the Whits and did so in 2005 with the tMP band.

It was a fantatstic experience, not just the playing but the social afterwards. Nights like that can never be re-created in terms of the humour and antics in the hotel afterwards! For me if I did it again I would always compare it with that night!

Perhaps the difficulty is raising the band is that as tMP has got bigger people assume that with 10,000+ members that plenty of other people will apply and the newer people feel unwanted or assume they won't be needed

Also with all the recent negativity shown if you are not experienced / play at Championship level or worst of all don't come from oop North you are made to feel inferior! Perhaps that has had an effect too.

Rest assured to anyone thinking of going you will not be judged on who you play for, where your band is from. Its not what the band is about.

Go and enjoy the experience, its well worth it!
