Who was Top Man at Dyke after James Watson?

Discussion in 'The Rehearsal Room' started by euphonium_john, Apr 21, 2011.

  1. My dad wants to know who succeeded Mr. Watson - as there's a recording of said cornet player he wants to track down. - All help gratefully received. Thanks.

Um...James Watson certainly conducted Dyke - but did he play for them? I didn't think so, but I'm no expert. You don't mean James Shepherd, do you?
  3. Maybe he meant Jim Shepherd?

or maybe M.M. (Top Trumpeter recently departed easy to confuse?)
  5. Nope, as far as I'm aware, Mr. Murphy was top man before Mr. Watson....

As stated James Watson never played 'top man' at Dyke but he was THE top man, as in MD!!! Dave King preceded him as MD and he's a pretty good cornet player ...

You need to give the weed a rest mate! ;)
  9. Reet,

Perhaps it would be much simpler to identify the recording wanted. I think we would all benefit from some clarity re the original question. Jim Watson did make a couple of solo recording with Dyke while he was MD.
