I would like to know from people who heard the Championship section at Skegness this weekend if they thought the overall result was fair?

Any thoughts on the bands performances?

Who do you think should have won?

    Frickley played:

Folk Festival - Shostakovitch arr. Snell
Pantomine (Euphonium soloist - IanWright) - Sparke
    Scaramouche - Milhaud arr. Snell
"It's a lovely day tomorrow" - Berlin arr. Snell
Dances from West Side Story - Bernstein

(Just realised how many Howard Snell arrangements we played!)

Does anyone know what the other bands played for the entertainment section?
  2. skeg champ section

I thought it was stupid in a way!!!
Why not have the testpiece on the saturday, then a solos contest for every one in every section !!!!!
Bet it was funny watching Nick (MY UNCLE) stand up all in while in the westside story!!!

I went home after they gave the 4th section results out
I was a every happy person after!!!!

We should have gone for the sympathy vote and put bandages on Nick's fingers, think he should stick to a brass instrument and the leave the claves to the percussion - still like you said, fun to watch.

Thought that with the lower sections finishing on Saturday that there wouldn't be many people left to stay and listen to the entertainments section on Sunday, but the hall was quite full.

Might be a good idea to include a solos contest for the other sections but I don't think there would be enough time, you need to balance playing with drinking :guiness

Well done with your result. :D
  4. Thank you , it was a good result for you too!!!
My Gran was pleased with three results
My Band Kirkby winning the 4th Section
Nick (Her son) 2nd in the champ section
Loz (GranChild) 2nd in the third section with Shirland Training Band!!!!!
    Well chuffed

Let hope we all can make it in march to the area and get to the nationals
    would be nice

    fair result

Yes i think the result was fair...
The best band won, by far, and the 2nd best came second!!
A great first attempt at a new contest I thought. Well done stan.
I did think Smokie should have won the solo prize though.
Did something go wrong in west side story for you?
Felt the band missed a bar in the first movement?

Don't remember anything going wrong in West Side Story apart from some wrong notes in the last section. Think one of the cornet players might have mentioned about missing a bar, but I'm not sure.
It was a shame Smokie didn't win the solo prize, we will just have to keep playing it until he does.
Surprised we came 2nd oveall with the naff result from the entertainments.
Nothing wrong with being critical, since you were there to listen. Take it you were playing as well, cause you haven't said what band you play for.

Yeah that would be cool. Your Gran must be a Good Luck charm. Would agree about the nationals.
  9. had a great weekend just a pity there was no concert.i do believe that all bands were asked to do a concert if they won.you could play you're entertainment prog if you wanted.its a shame desford didn't do it.

I usually play for Desford Colliery,(on and off since 1983), but was conducting Snibston & Desford (B) Band, so couldn't make both rehearsals.
I thought Gary (Cutt) did a Brilliant job with the band.
Good Luck for the area next year.

I agree with Nick, shame they didn't play a concert, thought it was part of the agreement.

Gary must have done a good job but it looked as if he didn't want to stick around.
