Timeline Vision are sponsoring next year's English Championships, and the blurb says they have lots of experience of video-ing band contests - and yet their one page website and use of only a mobile phone number for contact gives me the impression of a very young company in the throws of getting their act together. Can anyone who owns videos or DVDs made by Timeline shed any more light on them from the info on the packaging?

Sounds like a loaded post to me James, are you still concerned about who is sponsoring the championships as you letter to 4barsrest suggested?

Gives a little more info I guess. To my knowledge, they are a new company.

TBH I can't see what all the fuss is about. Surely we need more sponsers to inject cash into banding (though I'd rather see the money going to tuition and helping local bands than yet another elite contest).

Perhaps if we get some big players involved in banding the public profile would get raised considerable. Imagine if Coke sponsered a few bands! telly exposure, something Kids relate to, suddenly it becomes slightly cooler!.

(sorry am I going off topic mods?, should this be in a "Sponsers for Banding" thread?).

Any volunteers to be Coca Colas new face of Banding? (Mr Yelland perhaps?)

First Section would be called 'The Championship'!!! With 2nd section called 'League One'!

As other posts have put "Who cares" as long as competitions are being supported and made attractive for bands to enter. It's true do we need another Qualifying competition for the European , will bands support it for a couple of years then not support when the bands sound does not suit the hall or they have a couple of "Dodgy Draws"??? or find the date of the competition too close to a booked engagement or competition?? better setting up a scheme to start up youth training istead of waving a checkbook out to get players :( still as with the masters it will still go ahead even if bands withdraw , the competition is bigger than one band , the organisers are not going to twist your arms if you don't enter
Now putting two and two together making four...who have recorded brass band competitions over the past couple of years.....the one page website is the BFFB site , Are timeline vision registered with company house? who knows...the Plot thickens?????

They filmed last years British Open. I have a DVD of our performance. Pretty good quality, multiple cameras, reasonable sound reproduction. Just says Timeline Vision on the titles. Don't know anything about the company tho'.

Can't find any reference to Timeline Vision at companies house, however, the contact details given on the bfbb site give an email address of video@davidnicholson.com

A quick look at www.davidnicholson.com introduces him as a writer and makes no mention of any other kind of media.

    Curioser and curioser.

Perhaps it's all a Christian conspiracy to infiltrate brass bands and force everyone into church. Next thing you know they'll be giving away copies of the bible with the prizes.

What does it matter. As long as this company is willing to support banding to the extent it is why do people always look for alterior motives. Their main motive is probably, like most sponsors, financial gain. They'll film the event and make their money back, and some from the DVD sales.

I think I detect an attempt to ascribe to me a view that I have never uttered, nor even implied. There have, on the other hand, been many other people on this forum and in the letters pages of 4br, who have openly said (or implied) they 'knew' the identity of the sponsor before its identity was revealed. My concern is not who the sponsor is - all I care about is KNOWING who it is, and knowing a few salient details about them. Then, if it turned out to be a company who I might disapprove of - an armaments company supplying an oppressive regime, an unscrupulous bank who has fleeced me in the past, a newspaper whose owner also owns pornographic magazines, for example - I can exercise my right not to fill their pockets with my cash, or otherwise associate with them in any shape or form.

In a word, integrity. Theres not enough of it about.

David Nicholson is the bandmaster of Birmingham Citadel Band and has been involved in many of the recent DVD recordings of band events. I believe that "Timeline Vision" has been only recently established to carry out this work, that was originally a sideline to his full-time employment - I seem to recall that at some stage he was working with a company involved in the implementing and monitoring of congestion charging.

Yes he was! He is now at Siemens. Having worked for Timeline Vision on a recent project, I can say they are a very proffesional company! The david nicholson who is said to be an author is not the david nicholson associated with Timeline. The team at Timeline have done most of the recent major Band Contests doing the filming and makin the dvd before the company was formed... Anything else?

Yeah...my guess is they figured instead of paying X-thousand quid to get video rights to the contest, its more cost effective to just sponsor it ourselves.
