The Ipswich and Norwich Co-Op Band are very proud to be able to announce a joint concert with the world-renowned Whitburn Band from Scotland on Saturday 27th May. Currently ranked as the 12th best brass band in the world the Whitburn Band is Scotland’s Band of the Year for 2005 and have appeared throughout the world and represented Scotland on numerous occasions at the European Brass Band Championships. The Whitburn Band will be making the long trip south to compete in All Enngland Masters International Brass Band Championships to be held in Cambridge on Sunday 28th May and, due to a close relationship between the Whitburn Band musical director, Andrew Duncan, and the Ipswich and Norwich Co-Op Band the proposal of a joint concert was raised. A varied and exciting programme of Brass Band music is on offer including works by Sir Malcolm Arnold and Joseph Haydn as well as music from Michael Flatley’s “Lord of the Dance” and a chance to hear the set piece for the International Masters; “Paganini Variations” performed by the Whitburn Band just 24 hours before they take to the stage in Cambridge. These and many more items are on offer before the two bands combine to perform the tour de force transcription for Brass Band of “Elsa’s Procession to the Minster”; this is one event that no brass musician or fan of brass music can afford to miss. The concert will take place at 7.30pm on Saturday 27th May 2006 in the United Reformed Church, Stowmarket, Suffolk. Tickets are priced at £5.00 each and can be pre-ordered on 01394 615644 or via e-mail to the Ipswich Band Manager, Ian Burton (email@example.com).
