I don't know along which route you are planning to go from Calais to Amsterdam, but if you would pass through the East of Belgium, you're welcome to stop by!

(although i suspect you will probably be going through the western pasrt of the country, along the coast?)

and about your timing: 5 days for the entire trip :eek: From Amsterdam to Berlin (in East-Germany) and then all the way to the Alps...
Are you a trained profesional cyclist or something? Did you compute how many kilometers/miles this trip will be...?

Avis, so you can hire a car, or possibly The Bed Shed cos you're going to need one when you get back.

If you are going to cycle from Calais to Amsterdam along the coast, you will pass Ypres (with the Menin Gate monument) and a lot of WW1 graveyards (both Commonwealth and German). Very impressive, and a must-see for everyone who's in the region I think.

To get from there to Amsterdam could be a bit more complicated. Either you go through the Dutch province of Zealand (you'll probably have to take a boat to cross the East-and West-Scheldt rivers...?). Or you could go more inland, to Antwerp and then in the direction of Rotterdam. However, this is a very densely populated area...

As a fellow horn player I can sympathise with your desire to 'get away from it all!!' It does sound a tad ambitious to me - all this cycling - are you taking your horn for daily practice? Anyway, I'd recommend an elongated stay in Amsterdam (no need to come back and good band as well!) The Heart of Amsterdam is a good value hotel but you'd need a broad imagination and a certain tolerance level to stay there! It was hard.........

I thought in Holland you had to play while cycling, like the band at the Edinburgh Tattoo a year or so back ;)
