Weston Silver Band releases new CD

    The Weston Silver Band is pleased to announce the release of its new CD, entitled “Around the World in 80 Minutes”. Borrowing from the Jules Verne classic, the recording takes listeners on a musical journey around the globe, evoking the styles, textures and images of other lands and cultures.

    Around the World in 80 Minutes was recorded in February of 2006 at The Downtown Arts Centre in Hamilton, Ontario by Ed Marshall of Marshall Arts Productions. Produced by Larry Shields and Ed Marshall, the CD is based on a concert performed in the fall of 2005. The recording sets out to musically circumnavigate the world and features repertoire from well known brass band composers and arrangers as well as works written or arranged for the WSB. Touching down in all six continents, the CD includes Peter Graham’s Windows of the World , London Celebration and Hine e Hine, James Curnow’s Appalachian Folk Song Suite, Cossack Dance and Blue Danube – Goff Richards, Malaguena, arr. Mark Freeh, Around the World in 80 Days ,arr.Darrol Barry and An Irish Blessing – arr.Stephen Bradmen

    The WSB is proud to feature works by Canadian composers and arrangers including Howard Cable’s Ontario Pictures ,highlighting the geographical grandeur and heritage of the band’s home province, the joyous setting of the South African folk song Siyahamba, arranged by Dave Marlatt – Eighth Note Publications, as well as works composed or arranged especially for the WSB ( Keith Ketteringham’s Weston Express and Variations on a Korean Folk Song, arr. by Theresa MacDonald)
