The Band of the West Mercia Constabulary 2nd Festival of Music for non contesting Bands will take place on Sunday 12th July 2009. The augural event last year was a success and the organisers have taken on board the suggestions made by the participating bands and implemented several changes to the event.

The event is to be staged at Police headquarters, Hindlip Hall, Worcester. Each band will perform twice (or just once if they prefer) a programme up to 20 minutes in length.
At the end of the day there is the opportunity to take part in a massed band performance working with Tony Creswell of Mostyn Music and Steve Pritchard-Jones playing new music suitable for non contesting bands. Throughout the day Mostyn Music will have on display day a wide selection of music for brass band and brass accessories.

Refreshments and bar will be available throughout the festival. There is ample parking and members of the public are welcome to attend, entry is free of charge.

It is apparent that the number of such non-contesting bands is growing year on year, and it would appear that these bands, whilst performing in public concerts and varied engagements, tend to become more inward looking and seem to operate in an ever greater vacuum. As a community band, West Mercia are conscious of this growing move away from the mainstream of banding and have taken this step to try to involve these bands in a day of playing together in a social setting with other bands in a similar position. The Festival is staged for the sole purpose of creating a vehicle for social and musical interaction between the ever-growing numbers of players of these seemingly isolated bands.
