If any body browsing this topic, doesn't know what Wessex is (and if you don't, why not?!!!) then heres some info:

What is the Wessex Band Summer School?
The course is for woodwind, brass and percussion musicians of all ages and standards. Abilities range from beginners to those of diploma standard. It is open to people from all parts of the country.

The course will be the 35th and it is hoped that a reunion of ex-members and tutors can be arranged for a special social evening during the week. This will also be the 20th year of principle conductor Derek Broadbent and new works will be premiered.

Students join one of three bands appropriate to their standard and instrument. No auditions are necessary.

    The Bands
The Training Band is for brass, woodwind and percussion players from grade 1 up to grade 3 standard. Adults or young players are normally at the earlier stages of learning. The week provides a progressive introduction to group playing for the less experienced musician. There is group tuition and specialised tutorials. Younger members can break up the day with a non-musical activity hour. The week finishes with a concert for parents and friends.

The Brass Band (brass and percussion) and Wind Bands (brass, woodwind and percussion) are for players of all ages from around grade 4 upwards. The days are made up of full band and sectional rehearsals on an exciting programme of music with a variety of items to challenge everyone.

Tutors in recent years have been

Derek Broadbent, Mike Fowles, John Grinnell, Dennis Chalk, Stan Lippeatt
Tony Whittaker, Leonard Adams, Steve Chislett, Wes Garner
Ann Marie Cowdell, Trish Chislett, Bob Dickinson, Stewart Osgood
Steve Plant, Becky Plant, Mick Roberts, Josie Miell, Tracey Munford
Janet Rowe, James Gilbert, Astrid Wernitznig

Accommodation is not provided by the course, but members choose the style of accommodation that suits them, all of which is plentiful in the area:

    Camping
Holiday cottages for groups and families
    Bed and Breakfast
    Travel daily from home
    Hotels and guest houses
    Where and When?
The 2004 course takes place from July 26th
at Oakmead College Of Technology, Bournemouth, Dorset.

The course is £75 per person with camping being charged on top, campings something like £2.50 - £3 a night but i'm not 100 % sure on that. The course is excellent and really worth the money. Hope this helps!

Oh and poor Ed you've got the wrong person! Never played that piece! As your section leader from last years course i'm hurt and saddened!!!

About Wessex, I've been chatting to the organisers, and this year they are DESPARATE for flutes, clarinets and any other reed instruments, as well as the usual demand for tuba players.
I know that peeps on this site are brass dudes, but ask your muso mates, i'm sure you must know some wind players. The music won't be decided until any potential gaps in any of the gaps have been filled. :) See you all there.
