Any idea when the competing bands and adjudicators are going to be announced?

Had heard rumours that a large number of bands are not going - was told between 10 and 12 bands not going and possibly only 3 bands invading Swansea from the North!!

I think this year, because of the financial problems we are all having, they are not having adjudicators , just an honesty box!! You go on stage, play, then write the score you think you deserve on a piece of paper and put it into the box! About 3 hours after the last band, someone empties the box and we get the results!! This saves hiring an adjudicator, whistle, box to put him (or her) in and a spare score. If this system works, maybe next year we could all do it from our own band rooms to save travel etc and phone in the results!
(oops, its Feb. 1st not April, My mistake)
However, on a more serious note, Goodwick Band will be there in the 3rd section on Saturday and Corus (Port Talbot) in the 4th on Sunday. See you there Chris?

Well, we (Deiniolen) will once again be making our annual trek down south. We're back down to the 2nd Section this year though.

Apparently the Welsh regional committee are meeting on Tuesday evening to finalise everything. We should all be receiving the contest day details shortly after the meeting.

Ynyshir will be there in the 3rd Section.

I will be there with Beaumaris in the Championship but Menai Bridge have decided to take a year out, due to the large expense of competing at Swansea. Shame really as from what I have heard, it is an interesting piece that will set a challenge to Section 3.

Main reasons I was asking was at rehearsal yesterday, I was told that one NW band did not enter in time and that another was in a similar situation (hence hasty call to contest secretary who was in Amsterdam at the time!) plus talking with a student who is helping Menai Bridge out for Preston, her band from South Wales weren't going and that there were between 10 and 12 bands less than last year! Last year was arounf 43 bands for the whole weekend - could be low 30s this time if the rumour is true and all sections on one day?

Must admit Colin, your idea could be realistic soon! Having adjuducation via "Ask the Audience" would get more people in to listen and vote! Will any regional go for it???????

Well from last years line up Mid Rhondda and Oakdale will be missing, not sure about Parc & Dare.

Not entering in time is a big mistake on the band's part, surely you don't leave sending the entry form off until the last minute. I know my secretary rang the contest controller to make sure our entry had been received even though she had sent it on the 5th January.

Typical! We'd have had a top 7 finish this year then. Shame we're in the 2nd section......! ;)

Totally agree. Would loved to have taken Menai Bridge but the band have decided that we would prefer to use the £2000 that it costs us each year to compete at this contest to invest in our Youth Policy and safeguard the future of our band.

It is only the 2nd time in 12 years that the band has not competed in Swansea but feel that that the financial support we received from our local community at Christmas should benefit the band and ulitmatley the community, not a hotel and one contest.

Saying that, I will be there with Beaumaris so will see you in the Wig and Pen at some point!

And no-one can argue with you for doing so Chris.

It's such a shame that bands feel they have no choice but to pull out of their most important contest of the year cos they can't justify the huge expense - year on year.
