The Welsh Open Entertainment Championship to be held at the Grand Pavilion, Porthcawl on February 18th has 11 of the best brass bands in Wales competing, the bands are: Abergavenny Borough, BTM, Burry Port Town, City of Cardiff (Melingriffith), Lewis Merthyr, Markham & District, Northop Silver, Pontardulais Town, Tredegar, Tongwynlais Temperance, Tylorstown. Unfortunately no bands from the other side of the river Severn are making there trip this year, but we are very pleased to welcome Northop Silver from North Wales for the first time. The adjudicator is Mr. John Berryman The contest commences at 12.00noon, with 2 draws for order of play, at 11.00am and 2.00pm, with 6 bands competing in the first half and five in the second, there will be a comfort break after the band drawn number 6. With Tredegar trying to complete a hat trick of wins at the contest, Tongwynlais Temperance trying to add the Welsh Open to their Scottish Open title, BTM trying to win back the title they last held in 2009, and Northop attempting to take the crown back to North Wales the 1st time, as well an a number of other bands out to provide a serious challenge, an entertaining days contest lies ahead.
