The bands Musical Director, Martyn France, has decided to give up the “stick” at Watford. Martyn has been at the helm since early 2003 and this was his first experience of conducting a band. During this time membership has increased from around a dozen to well over 30 members paying subscriptions. There have been many eventful moments during the bands busy summer seasons entertaining the public in and around the Watford area. Martyn charismatic personality has endeared him to the band’s many audiences. On the serious side of brass band music Martyn has taken the band from the lower depths of the London and southern region fourth section to second place going into the 2008 series of regional and national contests. In 2006 the band were placed fourth out of a field of 26 bands and qualified for the national finals in Harrogate. This was no mean feat. So the band have to wave good bye to Martyn as their inspirational leader and wish him well with his new band Moulton 77. However Watford are not entirely losing him as he has agreed to play for the band when time permits and will be competing at the forthcoming Leicester, Butlins and Area contests. All the members and officials of Watford express their thanks to Martyn for all his efforts during the past 4 years and wish him success at Moulton 77. Looking to the future the band have secured the services Richard Graves, a highly experienced band trainer, who has agreed to take the band to the next 2 contests, i.e. Leicester in November and Butlins in January.
