Plans are well advanced for the Eric Ball Centenary Celebration Concert to be given by the Black Dyke Band and the International Staff Band on Saturday 11th October at the Royal Concert Hall, Nottingham.

This is certain to be a night to be remembered and the presenters and organisers, Salvationist Publishing & Supplies and Philip Biggs Brass Festivals, are dedicating a significant part of the printed programme to those who have particularly close and fond memories of Eric Ball. They invite written anecdotes of what must have been magical times. One of Eric Ball’s greatest strengths was the impact he had on those he came into contact with.

He was a much travelled man, whether it be visiting music schools and summer camps or as guest conductor - he literally travelled the world and in this respect was years ahead of his time. There must be literally hundreds out there who have personal recollections of meeting Mr Ball and we want to hear from you. We will be publishing as many as possible in the souvenir brochure. Please get in touch and let us hear your story.

Please send faxes to Marjorie Harrison at SP&S on 020 7367 6576 or send an e-mail to eric.ball@sp-s.co.uk

The programme will be a true homage to the life and work of Eric Ball in the world of brass.

Although this most significant concert is still four months away, tickets sales are advanced. Those wishing to attend the concert should contact the Box Office of the Royal Concert Hall, Nottingham, telephone 0115 989 5555. Tickets are priced at £10.00, £15.00 and £18.00.

You could contact Kirkbymoorside Town Brass Band. Their MD, Les Maw BEM was a personal friend of Eric Ball's. I remember seeing them chatting at the National Finals some years ago and I know he would ring him if he had a query over one of the great man's test pieces.
