    Here is an unusual request...
I have a mature (French) Horn student who is looking for a Single F Horn with an Eb Slide
When I was a lad these were just about all you could get but now they seem hard to find - secondhand ones seem to lose their Eb Slides.
If you have one lingering in your loft of back of your cupboard now is a great time to get rid of it !!

I'd not heard of these before so out of interest had a look on the web. The standard pitches now are: Bb, F, and Bb/F. Eb ones are rare.

Initially I only spotted one supplier but if someone wants to buy a new F Horn with an Eb slide then Cerveny make them ( http://www.cerveny.biz/waldhorn/chr_321.php ) and I think that they are Czech. Cheap Czech (Czechoslovakia(n) as was) instruments were common in youth education several decades ago so this might even be the same instrument the mature horn student has in his mind.

Had he considered getting an additional slide made for a standard F Horn by a specialist such as say Clennell Brass (http://www.clennellcustombrass.co.uk/)?

It's worth while keeping an eye on ebay and I see two Eb's and one Eb/F on there now (£400 new).

There is also a French Horn Society (http://www.hornsociety.org/) and they might be able to guide him.

Hope this helps, if even just a little, and 'bumping' the thread will also give others more chance to think about how your student might be helped.

    Thanks for your interest.
I am a horn player with 40 years of experience so I am well aware of the issues.
Josef Lidl (also Czech) make new F singles with Eb slides and I have a friend in Brno who may be able to help get one at a sensible price.
When I started the F/Eb model was the standard instrument but I haven't had a pupil using one for over 30 years !
I had a look on ebay at the wekend and there was nothing there except a couple of small wrap "Kinder" style which wouldn't be appropriate.
The making of crooks is possible but expensive - my aim in this post was purely to see if anyone had an instrument lurking in their loft - I know at one time I had several (they were eventually made into very attractive lamps -the beats use for them).
