Hi All - have just joined and am looking to buy a 2nd hand Dennis Wick mouthpiece - preferably a 4B but will consider a 3B. Don't mind if it's silver or gold.

    Many thanks - Modal.

Why the seeming obsession with the "b" series mouthpieces?
To my knackered old ears the sound generally produced is far too bright. At higher dynamics they can become very harsh indeed, especially in the hands of the less experienced players.
In an attempt to create a larger, more rounded front row sound I've got 'em all on DW4's.
It definitely takes that nerve jangling edge off (particularly softening the tones of those that also play trumpet).
    Just my two pennorth.

    What does the 'B' do?

Hi Sud - thanks for that info. I'm definitely a trumpet player first and have come to the cornet late. Can you tell me what the 'B' means and what the difference between the 4B and the 4 is? Thanks.

The B means it is shallower. It will give you a brighter sound.
