    The Fairey Band is very pleased to announce the appointment of Nick Walkley as their new Soprano Cornet player. Nick, whose father Steve enjoyed a distinguished career as Fairey’s Solo Trombone in the 1980s, returns to the band with whom he won the National Championships in 2002. Nick was also Fairey’s Principal Cornet between 2004-05. In his 4 years away from the band Nick has, of course, been Principal Cornet with the Leyland Band, but also cut his Soprano playing teeth with a stint at the YBS Band under the direction of Professor David King.

    Nick’s appointment completes what is now a strong cornet line-up at Faireys, including Laura Hirst on Principal Cornet, Mike Eccles on Assistant Principal and Brian Taylor on Repiano.

    Nick will make his first appearance in his new position when Faireys appear at the RNCM Festival Brass this Sunday morning (1st February).

    Congratulations to Nick.
    In the meantime, his father is enjoying a further distinguished career at Uckfield Concert Brass on Bass Trombone and deputy MD. ;
