    Danes opt for Vienna

[IMG] The Elite bands in Denmark will have to get to grips with 'Vienna Nights' at their Nationals in November.
It has been announced by the Danish Brass Band Federation (DAO) that Professor Philip Wilby's 'Vienna Nights' will be the set work for the Elite bands at the National Championships to be held in Lyngby Kulturhus the first weekend of November.

Last year it was Eden - this year it´s Vienna Nights... What comments do you have on this piece. Playing the piece or just listening... ????

It's an excellent piece, and was greatly enjoyed by the audience at Symphony Hall. There are several styles incorporated, and those which came off best were those that adjusted quickly from one to the other, with the cafe section possibly being one of the trickiest to bring off effectively - percussion can help a lot with this, and also in the "turkish music" sections. For me, the most successful versions in this respect were those that used the traditional cymbal mounted on top of the bass drum.

The Danes aren'the only ones to choose Vienna... It will be the set piece for the Belgian nationals as well :) (end of November)

I hope you'll enjoy it as much as our bands are... :D
