In around 1960 my father bought an old cornet which came in a black wooden case.
There is no make or model marks on it at all, but it is beautifully engraved on the bell with a floral design and the wording J Watts Rotherham inscribed on it.
For years I have wanted to find out who J Watts is (or was), he must have been well thought of to have an instrument so beautifully engraved.
Can anyone help? Who was this guy? Who did he play for? Does he have any relatives alive?
Any help that anyone can give me in trying to trace the origins of the instrument will be very much appreciated.
