EVENT: Independence Day Concert, featuring the James Madison University (USA) and United Co-op Milnrow (North West Championship Section) Bands
    DATE: Friday 4 July 2008
    TIME: 7.30pm
    VENUE: Leeds Central SA Hall

James Madison University Band is one of the finest bands in North America, and appears in Leeds as part of its UK tour. United Co-op Milnrow Band is a young, developing championship section band and is delighted to be sharing this event with JMU.

JMU repertoire includes: Overture to 'The Cowboys' and Born on the 4th of July (both John Williams), Postcard from Home (Phillip Sparke) and Trittico (James Curnow)

Milnrow repertoire to include: Stars and Stripes Forever (with surprise 'piccolo' soloists!), Mask of Zorro (James Horner), Mephistophiles (Shipley Douglas) and a performance of Steven Ponsford's exciting new work, Turris Fortissima

The two bands will join together for a combined finale with Leidzen's classic quick march, Manhattan, Wilfred Heaton's beautiful arrangement of the hymn tune 'Martyn', and the stirring 'Reunion and Finale from Gettysburg'.

Proceeds in aid of the Little London Project, a social action programme within a deprived inner-city area of Leeds.

Great venue - great cause - great music!
