Funny choice if it is. More of a 1st section piece these days innit?

    Smashin bit of music though....

I think Ian's right though. It's usually around september the top section piece gets revealed. Even the selectors probably don't know yet.

They are usually announced on the weekend of the Lower section finals.

To be fair, i have heard this from a few people too................but then we all were making speculation about Variations on a Ninth for the areas this year and proved to be wrong.

    Who knows??.........................

At least there's a fair likelihood it won't be more Vinter eh Ian? ;)

I've heard that this is definite and I'm sure they would have decided by now.

my only doubt is that they've chosen older pieces for the past 2 years - salute to youth and festival music - so i'm suprised they would again.

However this though is based on no inside information or knowledge.............. just a, probably incorrect, suspicion!!

Ignore that point........ its not actually that old is it!!

Good choice if it is! There will a lot of disappointed top cornets and EEb Bass players in the 1st Section though ... They could choose his shorter work, King's Messenger, as it is still relatively unused for competition. I'm sure Benvenuto will be in the shortlist again.

Played it in the early nineties as it was the test piece for the mineworkers finals at blackpool, personally i think it's a cracking piece.

I'd like to see Odin picked sometime - now that is a good challenge and quality music!

Wow, the speculation has started early!
We've waited for four months, we can wait another two :)
Personally i would like a more modern piece, similar to Isaiah 40 a few years ago. However, with it being an important year for Vinter, they could well choose another classic e.g. 'Variations of a ninth'.
Whichever, i'm up for the challenge

If it is yet another vinter for top section I will cry! With band changes I have ended up playing vinter for 3 areas in a row now. I have enjoyed them but think the panel need to come off their vinter horses now!

Anything but vinter for champ - please
