Top local band Perform in Bill Quay Park

This year an entertainments licence has been granted to Bill Quay Park in Gateshead and on Saturday 25th July the Friends of Bill Quay Park community group held their first “Music in the Park” event. The Felling Band provided an entertaining programme of traditional and contemporary brass pieces for music lovers to enjoy in the sunshine and pleasant surroundings of Bill Quay Park.

The Friends of Bill Quay Park and Gateshead’s Local Environmental Services are working together to ensure that this wonderful local park is being used to it’s full potential. Improvements in planting and play facilities along with various projects encouraging public involvement are bringing about an increase in the number of visitors to the park.

Gateshead Council cabinet member for the environment Cllr Michael McNestry said: “Our parks and green spaces are a real jewel in Gateshead’s crown. Events like this bring more people into our parks to see for themselves that no matter where in the borough they live they’re never far away from a little green oasis.”

The success of this event has encouraged the community group to arrange more concerts with one planned for August Bank Holiday weekend and a Christmas celebration in the park is under discussion.

The Friends of Bill Quay Park are planning another band concert on Bank Holiday Monday 5th May as part of the Fun Day to be held to celebrate the opening of the new Adventure Play Area soon to be installed in the park in Pelaw, east Gateshead. The Friends group secured a £50,000 grant from the Government's PlayBuilder scheme to finance this exciting new project. The Park and neighbouring Bill Quay Farm are to host a joint, free, May Day Spring Fayre to celebrate the day in style. Any brass bands in the North East that would like to perform in the park, please get in touch via this messageboard.
