  1. Maybe a strange question but does anybody know of any good timp solo's?

i have looked on just music and there are only two and are very pricey

hope to hear from someone soon

Are you after a Timp solo t go with the band or completely on your own.
Suggestion - Type in Timp solo in Youtube.com
  3. it is for timp and full band
  4. Tongue in cheek and sorry for not being very helpful: -

You could check out the Bearnaerts Catalogue, nearly everyone of their pieces starts with a Timp Solo

On a more serious note, the second section test piece "A Swiss Excursion" has a timp solo, and Zulu has a decent timp part.

The only one I know about is called 'Tin Pan. Eh.' It was played by Jim Anderson whilst at Kneller Hall. That was written for Timp and Millitary Band. Jim is playing with Timperley Band now so I guess you could always contact him through their web site. Hope this helps.

Gordon Jacob wrote a Concerto for Timpani and Wind Band, but I don't think it has been arranged for brass.

If you're willing to consider other percussion as well as timps, then Rodney Newton's "Variations for percussion and band" may be worth looking at (commissioned by and written for Evelyn Glennie, and recorded by Sellers.)

Sonatina for Timpani by Alexander TCHEREPNIN ( Russian d. 1977)

originally with piano accom. but he also did versions for orch. and wind band - no brass band version as far as I know.

I have a radio 3 recording of it somewhere which I will try to dig out.
  12. If you have a contact for Paul Lovatt-Cooper at Black Dyke, ask him. He probably knows of one or written/writing one.

I've just remembered that the European Soloist's competition included timps as a category, and would have had a piece prepared for the final round with band accompaniment. Can't lay my hands on the programme at the moment, but when I find it I'll post the details.
