Since the Moaning thread is getting so huge, and we're obviously a bunch of moaning minnies, how about a thread of things that make you happy?

The sound of wind in the trees
Waking up to find 6 inches of snow outside
Finding a tenner in the pocket of an old coat
    Amy giggling
The smell of newly washed and sleepy small babies
    Unexpected flowers
The feeling you get after pain goes away
The night before a holiday, full of happy anticipation
Getting ready to go out for a bevvy with mates
Someone smiling at me in the street for no apparent reason except that they're happy
An email from an old friend

An unexpected message in one form or another .
    A smile.
A hug that squeezes you very tightly and you know is geniune!
    Belly laughing.
Pie and chips with lashings of vinegar.
A random night out full of all of the above (ok, maybe a bit of fantasy included in that - most nights out don't have pie!)

A "big hug" from either of my two daughters, or a really "big hug" with all 4 of us in it!

A really well-poured pint of Timothy Taylor's Landlord, Pendle Witch, Deuchars IPA, Coniston Bluebird................(cont for another 256 pages) in a garden of a quiet summer's day.

A large steak in pepper sauce with all the trimmings, washed down with a bottle of Pinotage, followed by the above.

I don't just moan, I'll have you know! :) Still. We all like a good whinge now and again! :)

Anyway. What makes me go 'mmmmmmmm'?

    The act of humming?
Trying to speak after having your lips superglued together?

But seriously... (in no particular order

Listening to good brass music well played
    More hugs
The scenery and sheer beauty here on Arran
    Thinking of my girlfriend
Being with my girlfriend (I'm a soppy old git at heart...)

Lying in bed under a skylight, watching the stars
Watching the pattern the reflection of water makes on the ceiling
    The sound of the sea
A really good band gig where everything goes right and the whole band are flying. (Hasn't happened for a while, that one, but I remember the feeling)
    Sincere compliments from unexpected sources
Sunset over the hills through a big picture window with something by Vaughan-Williams on CD

    Repeating a few here....

A good night out with good friends
Playing in / listening to a really good band concert
The feeling immediately after you finish playing the last note of a "nailed" contest performance
    The sound of trickling water
A nice pint on a warm summers afternoon in a garden somewhere
That smell you get in the summer just before or just after it rains
<work alert> finally getting the recalcitrant machine that you've been struggling with for the last month to work beutifully with no problems, and realising that you've actually done a good job of designing and building it </work alert>
A long phone call with an old friend
An Alfa V6 at 6000RPM
Saying "good morning" to people on the walk round to the newsagents on a Sunday morning...
    ...and getting a (civil) response
    The English countryside
A big hug from my wife after a hard day
    Music of all descriptions

    In no particular order....

    1) The smell of rain on a hot road.

    2) Sweet and sour chicken (Cantonese style of course!) with really fluffy rice.

    3) When an audience goes out whistling something you played especially well.

    4) Getting a toe slider down on my way home from work. (Non bikers please ignore)

    5) Getting a big, fat bass chord with a pedal, perfectly in tune on stage.

    6) Les Preludes...for a number of reasons.

    7) Hear something you've written on your computer sounding a million times better on real instruments.

    8) When people I admire and respect beleive in me.

    9) Watching my girlfriend play her Euph. So proud. Sniff... (Hi Liz!)

    10) A bacon sanwich and a cup of tea from a transport cafe, when you've no idea where you are, and couldn't care less.

    11) Stopping for directions and meeting a really nice person.

    12) Doing a favour for someone, just cos you know it'll make them happy.

    13) When John Roberts nearly launched his baton out of the bandroom window!!!! (Honestly, he cleared both rows of the cornet section!)
