Has anyone any idea which bands will be competing in the Northern Open Brass Band Championships in St. Helens on the 18th November 2012 ?

I've heard mention that Greenfield are going, and Lees band will be there (we've already had our draw notified) It looks the 4th section will be well attended with the numbers making double figures.
Oldham band (Lees) will be there in the top section as well.

"It was also reported that the contest will not use the British Brass Band Registry (BBBR) for the contest and that alternative arrangements are to be implemented. The contest administrator will contact all bands to advise them about the procedures that will be used"

So have you all got your new registration cards? Who's cards you going to use if you haven't?

I believe they are having to accept BBBR cards as there is no current viable alternative, which is nicely ironic ;)

Well I hope the contest organisation has permission to use them and the rules of registration ;)

Sale are there in the 4th Section. I've had a voice mail from Frank Hodges today asking me to call about about registration....... does anyone know what the requirements are?

....just that you very carefully peel the photo off afterwards so you can use it on your shiny new Players registry card in the New Year and save a few quid by not using one of those photo-booths!

I've spoken to Frank now, he is phoning each band contest sec , the BBBR are not doing contest printouts (no surprise there then) so he is drawing those up, any form of ID acceptable on the day, still need day transfer forms/letter of consent for any borrowed players.. and I'll be taking the yellow cards!

so how will they know who's a member of your band? Perhaps this is the way forward for all contests - why is anyone bothering with a new registry milarkay? Looks like the future to me

absolutely - in theory we could all bring in players from higher section bands and just get them to bring their passports on the day. Hope the spirit of fair contesting prevails on the day though...

Expect to read a substantial endorsement of the new registry system after this contest on 4barsrest ;) what are the rules regarding players and borrowed players? How can it be checked if they are not using existing BBBR cards?

Yes indeed ....Usual rule about same section or below, ( or 2 out of the max of 5 from 3rd section if in 4th section)< Frank is phoning each band and asking for who is playing and which band they are from....
