The Music Company (UK) Ltd is once again demonstrating its commitment to aspiring writers by offering a new award. The forthcoming 3rd European Composer’s Competition, held in Belfast later this month, is seeing a new accolade being sponsored by the company – The Performer’s Choice Award. The three finalists will all have the opportunity to win this special honour, which is being judged by the members of the band performing the compositions on the evening of Thursday 27 April 2006.

The collective judges will be considering their overall enjoyment from rehearsing and performing each of the works together with their general musical appreciation of the compositions.

To mark this significant event The Music Company have commissioned an exclusive trophy, hand-made by Jon Padgett of MSJ Designs (

“On confirming the sponsorship of this award with EBBA, we were delighted to ask Jon Padgett to put his creativity to the test. We knew we wanted a trophy that would be striking, stylish and relevant to the award in design, but the rest was up to Jon. We are absolutely delighted with the finished piece and cannot fault the impeccable service we have received from MSJ Designs.

This trophy represents a major step in the development of The Music Company. In parallel with our involvement with the European Brass Band Championships, where we are one of the official sponsors and have published one of the set works, ‘Little Christmas’, our support of the 3rd European Composer’s Competition really cements our determination to bring new talented writers to the public’s attention.” commented Clair Tomalin, Business Director.

The Music Company has already secured some very reputable names in their portfolio of writers and they are introducing a collection of exciting works in their new catalogue. Pieces of particular note include Philip Harper’s ‘Water of Tyne’, Alan Morrison’s ‘1941 March’, ‘Bumble Beecroft’ and ‘Lullaby for Natalie’, Gareth Green’s ‘Colditz March’, David Stowell’s ‘Intrada’, ‘The Heat’s On’ and ‘North by Northwest’, and Keith Wilkinson’s flugel solo ‘More Than You Know’.

With the recent addition of Andrew Duncan to The Music Company, in the capacity of Editorial Director, together with the many innovative projects planned for the forthcoming months, it looks likely that this publishing house will be bringing a refreshing new programme choice to bands and audiences alike.
