` Hey everyone! The latest project for my small publishing company is a huge trombone excerpt book that I’ve put together and I felt that this was a good place to market it.

There are four different sets; a first trombone set, a second trombone set, a bass trombone set and an auxiliary trombone set.

The auxiliary trombone set is only one volume and includes third trombone, contrabass trombone, bass trumpet and tenor tuba parts.

The other three sets contain five volumes that are divided alphabetically by composer. In total, each set is over 2000 pages long, contains more than 400 different excerpts by 77 different composers and has been optimized to facilitate page turns. The pages are numbered and there is a table of contents at the front of each book to ensure that you can find what you are looking for.

ALL OF THE MUSIC IS PUBLIC DOMAIN. Sorry, I just wanted to make that very clear.

All of the parts are complete orchestral parts, not reductions. This is NOT a print-off of the Gordon Cherry CD.

Unfortunately I am not releasing a digital version, though I can send a sample pdf of one excerpt if you wish.

The first, second and bass trombone sets cost $150USD+shipping each. The auxiliary trombone set costs $50USD+shipping. You can also buy all four sets for $450USD+shipping. If you live in the Montreal area, you can pick up the excerpt book to avoid shipping costs.

Shipping to the US for the individual sets is about $22, but it varies from state to state.

Paypal is the easiest method of payment, however I do accept money orders or certified cheques. If you are interested or have any questions, send me a reply and I'll get back to you as soon as I can.

I also have a tuba excerpt book (as I am a tubist myself), and you can e-mail me about that if you are interested.

I don’t have a website yet, but that is in the works and should be up soon. Thanks,

    The complete contents of the set is;

Vaughan Williams' works may be in the public domain in the US, but you need to do some SERIOUS research in UK intellectual property law before you try to sell that thing in the UK, because they are most definitely NOT currently in the public domain in the UK, and will not be for a good 20 years.

UK copyright for musical compositions is LIFE OF THE CREATOR PLUS 70 YEARS FROM THE END OF THE YEAR IN WHICH HE/SHE DIED.

Vaughan Williams died 26 August 1958. That means that his works will not enter the public domain until Jan 1, 2028.

Ditto, Schoenberg and other 20h Cent. Composers on your list.

Vaughan Williams recently came into public domain, as did Schoenberg, Prokofiev, Stravinsky...

I cannot cater to everyone's copyright laws and, as the US and Canada are my biggest markets, it is for them that I print. If they are not public domain in your area of the world, that is unfortunate because it is truly a magnificent set of excerpts, but from my point of view, it is clear that all the music is public domain.

Tell that to the copyright lawyers who contact you asking questions! As already pointed out, RVW is not public domain either here or in most of Europe. Your attitude is pretty cavalier towards breaking laws which are regularly enforced... It would be a shame if you got splattered by the copyright police just because you didn't bother to take care over these things. But then, that is your lookout... People are only trying to warn you...

A small and not very significant correction to mclaugh - I believe RVW will come out of UK copyright on 1/1/2029, not 1/1/2028...

As far as I am aware, Stravinsky's works are protected until at least 2015.

Thank you for the warning, but the fact is that I haven't done anything illegal. I haven't sold it to anyone in the UK. As I said, my market is in North America. This site services Europeans as well as Americans. Just because you cannot legally buy it (presuming you are from the UK) does not mean that there are not many others who can and it is them whom I am targeting. Were a European to show an interest in buying it, I would obviously have to notify them of the changes and remove some pages.

And the seventy year rule is only a minimum parameter, in reality it is much more complicated. For example, Ravel died in 1937, but Bolero is still under copyright.

I'd say that approx. 95% of the membership here is from the UK, and approx. half of the rest come from elsewhere in Europe. By posting here, it looks like you're advertising specifically for British sales... Misleadingly...

Looking at the list, it's pretty obvious a lot of it has been cribbed from Gordon Cherry's CDROM, which in itself is questionable in it's legality, not to mention ethics.

My suggestion would be to be absolutely sure of the legal side of things before proceeding. By advertising an item for sale in the UK, you are (by default) accepting the long arm of Mr Plod. Internet sales are still a grey area, but take care with what you are doing.

I would also suggest that there are a few glaring omissions. Of course, opinions vary, but my 10+ years as a professional trombonist has taught me what crops up a lot and what doesn't.

And at $150 - $450 per set, I am sure you can contribute something to tMP for the free advertising you are getting eh! :)

I suggest you look at this page by the UK Intellectual Property Office on what constitutes copyright infringement before you pronounce so confidently on your legal standing.

I was unaware of that. Obviously that makes this place a poor choice of advertisement then. I shall research this further.

I can promise you that it is not taken from the Gordon Cherry cd. If you need proof PM me your e-mail address and I'll send you some samples. I am aware of lapses in my book, Bolero for example, which is still under copyright in North America, as is Symphonic Metamorphosis and other twentieth century works.
