The Sellers International Band would like to welcome some new and young players who have all joined within the last month or so. These included: Ben Johnson (who is currently a music student at Huddersfield University) and Scott Wolfenden who have joined on repiano and solo cornet respectively. Ben Croombes (who is also a music student at Huddersfield University) joins on Percussion. The band also welcomes two experienced campaigners on B Flat Bass; Alan Hodgkinson, from Dobcross Silver, and Glyn Wydell, who returns to the band after a spell at Hepworth. The new players made their debuts with the band at the recent British Open Championships where despite an early draw and a strong performance from Sellers, in which all of its soloists gave fine contributions, the band had to be content with 15th place and therefore were relegated to the Grand Shield. In spite of this set back, the performance has given the band a new impetus going ahead for the remainder of the contesting season and the future looks bright for Sellers Band. This bright future includes the Yorkshire ‘Cancer’ Festival of music, where Sellers and the YBS band will perform along with a plethora of both the leading male and female choirs from Yorkshire at the Royal Albert Hall at the beginning of November, a joint concert with Barnard Castle band and the Sage “Brass in Concert” entertainments contest where the band will be looking to gain another podium finish.
