    Brahms – Academic Festival Overture
    Sibelius – Valse Triste
    Elgar – Symphony No.1 in A flat

    This performance is the outcome of a day of orchestral study earlier in the summer, in which dedicated amateur orchestral players from Yorkshire and other localities in the north came together at Embsay Village Hall.
    Pay at the door – proceeds to the Sue Ryder Hospice, ‘Manorlands’, Hebden Road, Oxenhope, BD22 9HJ

    Concert begins at 7.15pm
    Arthur Butterworth celebrated his 90th birthday on Sunday, 4th August 2013

    Great to see Arthur Butterworth still active at the age of 90. In brass band terms, he's a shamefully neglected composer - see the list of selected works at

    It would be great to see a championship section contest select Odin in this, his anniversary year. Or at a less technically assured level, Three Impressions for Brass is a cracking series of little vignettes that would work well for a fourth section or youth contest.

    Arthur Butterworth's music needs to be performed more. He deserves to be composer of the week on Radio Three.
