As announced on theMouthPiece.com earlier, the British Open Solo and Quartet Competitions will take place in Manchester on November 6th. After the succes last year of the Willebroek Cosy Brass Quartet (who will be defending their title), several other Belgian musicians will try to follow in their footsteps this year. In the Senior Soloist category, Nick Ost will take part on euphonium and Bert Van Thienen (who was recently interviewed for The Brass Herald) will play the soprano. They will both try to capture the British Open Solo title, and the invitation to the Ern Keller International Soloist of the Year Competition in Australia that goes along with it. But also several of our young talents are making the trip: Jef Vermeiren (cornet), Nick Vermeiren (euphonium), Ans Vermeiren (trombone), Lode Violet (cornet) and Jonas Violet (cornet), all members of Young Brass Band Willebroek, will try their best in the Junior contests. But win or no win, all particpants are looking forward to a very unique British experience!
